Manchester United v Aalborg Review

All we had to last night was equal Villarreal's result and then we would top the group, which is important mainly because you get to play the second match against the team you are drawn in the knockout stages at home.

There were only two players who started who started the match against Sunderland last weekend and they were Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney. It was also a fairly young Manchester United side which was:- Kuszczak, Neville, Ferdinand, Evans, O'Shea, Nani, Gibson, Anderson, Giggs, Rooney and Tevez.

Rooney had a chance to score basically straight away when a backpass fell to Rooney but the angle was too wide and the ball was cleared.

We did get an early goal, Giggs flicked the ball over two defenders, Tevez ran onto it and sent it past the goalie Zaza. 1-0 to Manchester United and it looked like it could be an easy high scoring game.

We had a lot of possession again but we didn't score and in the 32nd minute Aalborg had an equaliser. Aalborg were given a freekick and the ball was clipped past Kuszczak, replays showed that the ball went through his arms but it was 1-1.

It looked like it was going to go into the break 1-1 but Aalborg had other things on their mind. First half injury time Aalborg got another goal, Curth was unmarked and a fantastic header went inside the far post to give Aalborg a shock lead going into half time.

United came out after the break looking for a goal straight away and we basically did. Anderson passed the ball to Rooney who drilled the ball past Zaza to give United an equaliser.

There was a bit of a heart in mouth moment for Aalborg defender Olfers glanced Rooney's ball onto his own crossbar which could have easily gone in for an own goal.

Nani looked a lot better in the second half, it was one of the better performances that I have seen him play, he did have a few shots and they were close but he looked good.

The stats show that Man United and Aalborg both had five shots on target at goal each, Man United had 11 off target and Aalborg had five off target.

United had 65.4% possession and Aalborg had 34.6% possession.

Tevez worked hard yet again, with Rooney being suspended for Saturday's match against Tottenham and I would love to see him start the match and show exactly what he can do.

We are now at the top of the group (Villarreal lost 2-0 to Celtic) and into the knockout round of the Champion's League, we cannot be drawn against Arsenal or Chelsea who finished in the runners up positions but we can be drawn against Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and Lyon.

Whoever we play will be difficult but with us playing the second game at Old Trafford that has to be an advantage.
