Berbatov In Another Kidnap Ordeal

At the young age of 18, a rival football team trying to get him to sign for them kidnapped Dimitar Berbatov. At the time Berbatov was playing for CSKA Sofia, after training he was snatched by three men who were working for gangland chief Georgi Iliev.

It is thought that he was going to be forced to sign for the chiefs club Levski Kjustendil. Whilst being taken to meet the chief, Berbatov managed to make a call to his father. Luckily for Berba his dad managed to intervene and sort out a deal.

10 days ago (but only recently been made public) a mafia gang phoned up Berbatov’s mother and threatened to snatch Berbatov’s wife Elena and newborn baby daughter Dea unless he handed over £500,000.
Berbatov was in his homeland Bulgaria at the time and he immediately flew home in a private charted jet (which was sanctioned by Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson) after sorting out a deal with the gang who said they would leave his family alone.

One family friend said: “Dimi is still very worried for his family and has promised his neighbours money if they notice any suspicious people around his house.”

Man United have stepped up security at his home in England. A Man United spokesman said last night: “As this is a security matter we have no comment to make.”
