Man United have the opportunity to go top of the Premier League table with a win over Everton in the lunchtime kick off. Chelsea play Wolves in a 3pm kick off at Molineux, which should be a fairly comfortable win.
United travel to Goodison Park off the back of a fantastic 3-2 win over AC Milan in the San Siro. Everton on the other hand had a Europa Cup match against Sporting Lisbon at Goodison, which they won 2-1.
Wayne Rooney may be in what many believe to be the best form of his footballing career but returning to the stadium in which he started his professional career may end in controversy. Rooney made 67 appearances for the Toffees, scoring 15 goals. The last time Rooney played at Goodison Park he kissed the Man United badge to wind the Everton fans up, which it did. It also resulted in him being substituted not long after that.
It will be a very difficult match, the home side will be full of confidence, not only because of their win over Sporting but the match before they beat Chelsea 2-1. Everton have lost only once in 2010 and that was to their fierce rivals Liverpool.
“We have a good record there [at Goodison Park],” Sir Alex Ferguson said.
“Maybe the atmosphere does help us because it is a real football stadium. Goodison Park is an old ground but it has got the football tradition still attached to it.
“The crowd are always very noisy and they will make that noise felt tomorrow. But we have experienced that many times before.
“It is a massive game for us, we recognise that. Beating Chelsea shows Everton’s potential, so if we could get one, a positive result would be very important.”
Everton have Tim Cahill, Marouane Fellaini, Victor Anichebe, Tony Hibbert, Phil Jagielka and Philippe Senderos all out injured.
Man United will be without Rio Ferdinand who will be serving the final game of his four-match ban. United are also without Luis Nani, who was sent off against Aston Villa and he is serving the first of his three-match ban. Ryan Giggs, Owen Hargreaves and John O’Shea are all out injured.
The Man United squad who will travel to Liverpool is- Edwin Van Der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak, Ben Foster, Gary Neville, Wes Brown, Rafael da Silva, Fabio da Silva, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Anderson, Ji-Sung Park, Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes, Antonio Valencia, Darren Fletcher, Darron Gibson, Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov, Wayne Rooney and Mame Biram Diouf.
