Rooney Charged By FA

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been charged by the FA for the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language.

A statement published on TheFA.com read:

"The FA has charged Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney for the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language.

This charge relates to an incident during his side’s fixture with West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday 2 April 2011.

Rooney has until 6pm on 5 April to respond to the charge."

Rooney swore into a television camera after his third goal in United's 4-2 win against West Ham on Saturday. Rooney said the F-word twice directly into a TV camera, which was broadcast live to millions of viewers.

Rooney apologised immediately after the game, his statement read:

"I want to apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my goal celebration, especially to any parents or children that were watching.
"Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat of the moment reaction was inappropriate, it was not aimed at anyone in particular."

Rooney now faces a two-match suspension, which means that he would miss the games against Fulham and the FA Cup Semi-Final match against Manchester City.

Rooney has until 6pm tomorrow to respond to the charge. If Rooney accepts it then he will be hit with the two-match suspension. If Rooney appeals the charge there will be a hearing on Wednesday and he will have his case heard.

Complete nonesense really is. The amount of stick he receives throughout a game and through the press is ridiculous and for this to happen well i dunno. Hes an idiot for doing what he did but with emotions etc its clear how and why it happened.
