It is getting ever closer to the end of the season for football clubs and it’s that time of year where awards will be given out. According to an article published on soccernet written by Norman Hubbard, Man United’s Gabriel Obertan has been one of the ‘worst signings of the season'.
I wouldn't normally comment on this but it has infuriated me, okay so it’s not a massive official award but it is the principle of it, which I believe is unfair.
Obertan joined United on the 8th July 2009 from Bordeaux. Since then he has gone on to make 13 appearances this season for the first team but he has played for the reserves, who incidentally were crowned Premier Reserve League North champions on Tuesday night.
He is a highly rated forward, who was never going to constantly be in the first team in his first season at United. Obertan is one for the future, when he is ready, Sir Alex Ferguson will play him more.
He’s an exciting young player who has had to move to a new country, fit in at one of the biggest football clubs in the world, give him a break.
The winger/forward has also been injured so I believe it’s very unfair that he has been put on this list of ‘worst signings of the season’.
Here is what Hubbard wrote:
10. Gabriel Obertan (Manchester United, £3 million)
Gabriel Obertan has struggled for first-team opportunities in his debut season
He can run rather quickly and likes a stepover, but there the similarities to Cristiano Ronaldo end. Admittedly, Antonio Valencia was a more direct replacement for the Portuguese than the untried Frenchman and there is still time for the 21-year-old to make an impact but, before reappearing at the end of the Manchester derby, Obertan had disappeared off the radar, suggesting he is near the back of a long queue of wingers.

Let's not also forget Obertan's contribution in Germany for Owen's hat-trick & 2nd goal.
If he's a flop then I wish we had more of him. He'll be quality in a year or two. More United bashing.
