Ferdinand to sign a new contract?

Last week United defender Rio Ferdinand captained England, this week it has been revealed that Ferdinand is close to signing a new contract with United. This contract is thought to be a deal that will keep the defender at the club for the rest of his football career.
Ferdinand has been an important part of United’s defence. Ferdinand and Vidic have stayed strong throughout the season, until last Tuesday when Vidic injured his knee.
This is what Ferguson had to say:
'We have been negotiating for a few weeks and I do not think we are far away.
'But you know what negotiations are like these days, they are never easy.
'I thought Rio was particularly impressive in the second half against Roma, especially his interceptions.
'He also has the pace to deal with players who try to get beyond him.'

I personally think that it is fantastic news for the club, Ferdinand is only 29years old and he can have a massive part to play in future title and Champion’s League challenges. What do you think about Ferdinand getting a new contract?
