Yesterday Arsenal kicked off the Premier League with a 1-0 win over new boys West Brom, today it is United's turn to kick off their Premier League campaign, at Old Trafford, against Newcastle.
Last season United got off the mark slowly with a 0-0 draw with Reading on the opening day, hopefully today we can get of the mark with a win over Newcastle.
Manchester United
The good news for Manchester United is that Wayne Rooney is fit to play after a virus, it was looking like he wasn't going to be fit.
Nani is suspended and Ronaldo is injured, we are also without some other big starts such as Hargreaves, Saha and Park.
United Squad:
Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Neville, Brown, R Da Silva, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea, Evans, Evra, Silvestre, F Da Silva, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson, Possebon, Giggs, Martin, Tevez, Rooney, Campbell.
Sir Alex Ferguson (on Berbatov)
"I cannot give you an answer because there isn't one.
"We have been trying to add to the squad but nothing has changed, I have nothing else to say.
"You might be surprised at what is going to happen over the next two days.
"The challenge is for us to improve.
"You would think with young players like Anderson, Ronaldo, Rooney and Nani we have the capacity to do that.
"There is no doubt this team will win championships long after I have left. There is a good foundation here now."
Newcastle
Newcastle have included their new Argentine defender Fabricio Coloccini, but they haven't considered newly released Joey Barton.
Skipper Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Andy Carroll are all injured, Shola Ameobi is talking to Ipswich so they are without them.
Newcastle Squad:
Given, Beye, N'Zogbia, Taylor, Coloccini, Enrique, Cacapa, Bassong, Edgar, Butt, Geremi, Milner, Duff, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Martins, Smith, Edgar, Harper.
Newcastle's new signing Jonas Gutierrez on Carlos Tevez:
"I am friends with Carlos and we will talk before the game.
"He's very good and our defenders will have to pay a lot of attention, because he can score a goal at any moment.
"There are many good players in the United team but Carlos is playing very well and had a great season last time."
