United Go Through And Tevez Shines

There was one stand out performance last night and that was Carlos Tevez who was fantastic. Many United fans feel that Tevez should start more games and he showed exactly why he should be starting and playing more often than he is.

Last night Manchester United beat Blackburn Rovers to go through to the Semi-Finals of the Carling Cup in an eight goal thriller.
There was only one player in the starting 11 who started against Manchester City last Saturday and that was Rafael Da Silva.

Blackburn lined up with an experienced team and United's was definitely a younger team after what happened to the Arsenal youngsters against Burnley it wouldn't have been a massive surprise if United had a few problems last night but the Man United kids showed the Arsenal kids how to play football.

Blackburn looked the slightly stronger team in the first 10-15 minutes and it looked like the United players were just going through the motions.
Ben Foster (who was making his first appearance at Old Trafford playing for United) made a great save from Warnock to knock it over the bar for a corner.

Gibson had a great chance to put United 1-0 up in the 22nd minute but his header was cleared off the line by Olsson.

Most of the goals came in the second half but the first came from a free-kick taken by Gigg's in the 36th minute. It still isn't clear who had the last touch to put the ball into the back of the net, it was either an own goal by Mokoena or a first out of four for Tevez, either way we had the lead.

It looked like we were going to go into the break 1-0 up but Tevez had other idea's when goal scorer turned provider and Nani was put in on goal and slotted the ball past Robinson in the 42nd minute to make it 2-0 United.

Second half and United could have easily gone 3-0 up but what looked like a certain goal by Nani was saved by Paul Robinson. Blackburn went down the other end and pulled a goal back almost straight away.

McCarthy (who came on at half-time) hit a shot which went inside the posts to make it Manchester United 2-1 Blackburn. At that point it looked like Rovers could pull themselves back into the game but that only lasted for around five minutes.

Giggs (who also had a great game) slotted the ball through to Tevez and Tevez was stupidly pushed over in the penalty area by Ooijer which meant only one thing- penalty.
Tevez got up and calmly took the penalty to give Man United a 3-1 lead.

It looked like we were going to go through to the semi-finals comfortably but things did get more exciting. Tevez scored his hatrick in the 54th minute, the hatrick came from some fantastic play. Giggs found Anderson with a backheel, Anderson found Tevez, Tevez passed the ball back to Anderson who was through on goal but he unselfishly knocked the ball into Tevez' direction and Tevez put it into an empty goal and there he had his first hatrick since he came to England.
I think that Anderson could have scored and that would have been his first for Man United but it was really unselfish of him.

66 minutes in and there came one of the biggest cheers of the night- the return of Paul Scholes, who has been injured for months.

So, Man United were 4-1 up but Rovers did pull two more goals back to make it 4-3. The first was scored by Derbyshire in the 84th minute when he went past Evra who seemed to slip a bit and he put it past Foster. The second came in stoppage time and McCarthy got his second of the night who flicked a Derbyshire cross into the back of the net.

The 4-3 scoreline didn't last for long, Anderson passed the ball to Tevez and it looked like the angle was too tight for him to score but he did and he scored the best goal of the night.
Tevez thumped a low dipping volley past Robinson and Manchester United are now into the semi-finals of the Carling Cup alongside Tottenham, Burnley and Derby. The draw for the semi's will be made this Saturday lunchtime.

We have Sunderland this Saturday in the late kick-off and I am hoping that Tevez starts, he showed that he has the quality, the patience and he works so hard for the team. I have been disappointed with Berbatov so far and I think quite a few people have, possibly we could have Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov starting, what a line-up that would be.

One Response so far.
