Barca 2-0 Man United, Champion's League Final Review

Football - Manchester United v FC Barcelona 2009 Champions League Final
I don't really know how to start, I am still gutted over last night. Barcelona played us off the pitch but we were absolutely awful.
The Man United team who started were- Edwin Van Der Sar, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, John O'Shea, Ryan Giggs, Anderson, Michael Carrick, Ji-Sung Park, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

We were good during the first nine minutes, Ronaldo had five or six shots but then Barcelona went down the other end for the first time and scored. Andres Iniesta (who was fantastic for Barca throughout the game) found the killer pass to Samuel Eto'o, he easily went past Vidic and slotted the ball past Van Der Sar.
It took me a few seconds to realise that Barcelona scored, there wasn't an immediate reaction.

After that goal, there was no way back for Man United, the players were shaky and kept on giving the ball away. Manchester United just didn't turn up.
Ronaldo did have more chances, at one point he was through on goal but former United player Gerard Pique body checked him. Freekick to United but it was wasted.

Barcelona kept hold of the ball and that is incredibly frustrating when you are 1-0 down, there weren't too many chances in the second half. Most of it was Barcelona pressure but they weren't really going anywhere.

Second half and Carlos Tevez was brought on straight away, replacing Anderson. United started off a bit better than they finished the first half.

Lionel Messi went down in the penalty area claiming that there was a challenge on him by O'Shea, no way was that ever a penalty. The referee rightly told him to get up off his backside.

Barcelona continued to pile on the pressure. Iniesta was pulling all of the strings in the midfield and he won his team a freekick just outside the penalty area. Xavi stepped up and the ball hit the post and bounced away.

Man United's first chance of the second half came from a Rooney cross in but Yaya Toure just managed to get the ball away from Ronaldo and Tevez who behind him and ready to put the ball into the back of the net.

With not long left Berbatov was brought on for Park. Man United were starting to get into the match and looked like the more likely team to score but Barcelona hit us with the sucker punch which put the game to bed.

Carlos Puyol intercepted the ball on the half way line, Xavi ran at the defence and put in a great ball for Messi who headed the ball past Van Der Sar to give Barca a 2-0 lead.

If we were going to get back into the game we had to score straight away and we nearly did. Tevez put the ball in, Giggs scuffed his shot and Barca goalie Victor Valdes came out to block Ronaldo's shot.

With 10 minutes left, Man United were getting frustrated and the players were loosing their discipline. Ronaldo went in on Puyol and Paul Scholes (who came on earlier) was shown a yellow card for a horrible tackle on Busquets.

The match finished 2-0, Man United didn't turn up to the match. Barcelona really did deserve it but there is always next year. This defeat will make us stronger in the long term.
We now have to put up with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and other fans trying to wind us up but atleast we got to the final, we got further than they did.

The football season may have finished but Man United Devils doesn't stop. I will still be posting throughout the summer, including topics such as Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo, how Welbeck and Campbell are getting on in the U21 Euros and much more.

Hi pujaans, thanks for your comment. Hopefully this defeat will make us stronger and we will win next time.

Hi nasirdamanhour, thanks for your comment. I don't quite understand your question. Do you mean a new number seven as in Ronaldo? I don't expect him to go anywhere.
