Ji-Sung Park's first half header was enough to win the game against Arsenal and take Manchester United back to the top of the table.
The game got off to a scrappy start but also had a feisty edge with the away side conceding quite a few free kicks in the opening 15 minutes.
United’s first shot at goal came from Wayne Rooney, he turned on the edge of the area but his strike was kept out by Wojciech Szczesny. 23 minutes in, Nani almost opened up the scoring after Sebastien Squillaci’s header fell to the Portuguese but his shot fell just wide of the post.
After the break, Anderson should have given United a two-goal lead. He was put through on goal by Rooney but Szczesny was quickly off the line to block the shot. Minutes later, Marouane Chamakh should have equalised for the Gunners. Edwin Van Der Sar parried Samir Nasri’s shot straight into the path of Chamakh but luckily for United Nemanja Vidic’s block prevented a goal.
United should have scored more than one goal with Nani shooting over a fantastic opportunity but the best was handed to Rooney. Man United were awarded a penalty after Gael Clichy handled in the area. Rooney stepped up but blasted the penalty well over the bar.
With five minutes remaining Rooney managed to lob Szczesny but the keeper somehow kept the ball out. Arsenal’s final chance was wasted by substitute Theo Walcott and the game finished 1-0 to United.
United picked up a massive three points and are now two points clear of Arsenal, who are in second place. United also still have a game in hand, next up is Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.
