According to Federico Macheda's agent, the striker is set to join Italian side Sampdoria on loan. Many Italian sides and Premier League side West Brom had believed to be interested in taking the 19-year old on loan, Sampdoria look to have won the race.

Kiko's agent Giovanni Bia told Sky Italia: "The only thing missing is the formalities"

"I hope to finish everything by tonight so the player will be available for Sunday."

"That is the idea, then it will be evaluated with Manchester United and they will need to see if he stays in Italy for another year.

"It is 99 per cent certain he would go straight back to Manchester United.

"I think Alex Ferguson wants him back, because he considers Macheda a major European talent."
