Manchester United V Liverpool Preview

Tomorrow lunchtime Manchester United take on Liverpool at Old Trafford, in the only Premier League clash in the third round of the FA Cup.

The big news ahead of the game was the announcement today that Roy Hodgson has left Liverpool by mutual consent and club legend Kenny Dalglish will be in charge until the end of the season.

Liverpool have had a poor season, especially in the league where they currently sit in 12 place having played 20 games and picking up 25 points with a goal difference of -3. Comparing that to Manchester United who currently sit top of the table, who have played 20 times, picked up 44 points and have a goal difference of +24. In all competitions this season, Liverpool have lost to Manchester City, Man United, Northampton (on penalties), Blackpool, Everton, Stoke, Tottenham, Newcastle, Wolves and Blackburn. In comparison Man United have only lost once which was a 4-0 loss to West Ham in the Carling Cup.

Sir Alex Ferguson will give late fitness checks to Wayne Rooney who has been out with an ankle injury and Edwin Van Der Sar who has been suffering with the flu. United will definitely be without Paul Scholes, John O'Shea, Owen Hargreaves and Antonio Valencia. New signing Anders Lindegaard will be available after completing his move during the week.

For Liverpool, Paul Konchesky suffered a dead leg during Liverpool's loss to Blackburn Rovers but is expected to have recovered in time. Martin Skrtel may also return after suffering from a stomach strain. Liverpool will be without Jay Spearing and Jamie Carragher.

There have been a total 0f 180 games between the two clubs in all competitions. Manchester United have won 70 times, Liverpool have won 60 times and there have been 50 draws. Out of the 180 games the clubs have played each other 15 times in the FA Cup, United have won eight times, lost three times and there have been four draws.

Referee is Howard Webb. Webb has taken charge of 23 games in all competitions so far this season, he has shown 74 yellow cards and only one red. Webb officiated the match between Man United and Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League back in September last year, which United won 3-2. The only other game involving United, which Webb has officiated this season was the 1-0 win over Arsenal in the league. Webb also took charge of Liverpool's 2-0 losses to both Everton and Chelsea in the league this season.
