It looks like Manchester United could be in a spot of trouble. CSKA Sofia have filed a lawsuit to FIFA against Man United after the clubs couldn't settle a problem over Dimitar Berbatov involving sale-on-fees.

When Berbatov joined Man United from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, Sofia were supposed to receive some money from Man United at the beginning of last season. The amount of money is thought to be one million leva which is a 'solidarity' payment.

British law states that when local transfers are involved from one English based club to another, the fee percentage should not be allocated to former teams, which are based overseas.

CSKA now feel like there is no other alternative and they are seeking assistance from FIFA.

This is the first time that I have heard that a payment must also be made to CSKA. Whether Man United pay it or not is another matter. I haven't seen the contract so I don't know if they have to or not but if they did have to, I would have thought that United would have paid it.

It has been suggested that the 6+5 rule could actually be legal, if you don't know what the 6+5 rule is, here is a quick explanation.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter wants to apply a rule which means that all clubs at the beginning of a match would have to field at least six homegrown players and five foreign players.
How would this affect Manchester United?

I am not sure whether United would have to field British or English players. If it is British players that United would have to field then it would be a problem since we have players such as- Fletcher, Giggs, Evan's, O'Shea, Rooney, Scholes, Foster, Hargreaves, Carrick, Ferdinand, Neville, Brown, Welbeck, Gibson, Simpson, Campbell and some other youngsters coming through the youth system.

If Man United could only field English youngsters then they could field- Rooney, Scholes, Foster, Hargreaves, Carrick, Ferdinand, Neville, Brown, Welbeck, Simpson and Campbell.

How would you choose the five foreigners?
We have players such as- Van Der Sar, Evra, Nani, Ronaldo, Park, Tevez, Berbatov, Vidic, Anderson, Tosic, Fabio, Rafael, Manucho, Possebon, Kuszczak and a few young foreigners who are playing in the reserves.

Out of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, United would be the team with the most homegrown players. Arsenal and Liverpool would probably be the two worst off and that is out of the whole of the Premier League.

Are you in favour of the 6+5 rule, I haven't quite made my mind up yet. It would be great for the England National team but I'm not sure how it would affect United.

Now I may be a biased Manchester United fan but I think that if Ronaldo doesn't win FIFA World Player Of The Year tonight then it would be a travesty.

I think that this award is probably between three players: Messi, Ronaldo and Torres.

There is no way that Torres had a better season than Ronaldo so he shouldn't get it. I would be wrong if I compared Ronaldo and Messi because I watched every single Manchester United game but I didn't really watch that many Barcelona ma

This award is also covered for this season (it covers the 2008 calendar year not a football season) and it is voted for by International managers so there is a good chance that Messi could win it over Ronaldo because I think that all Man United fans and Ronaldo himself will tell you that he hasn't been at his best so far this season.

Will Ronaldo get it?

I hope so but many people (not just the English) think that FIFA are biased against England, but why should that affect it? It isn't FIFA voting, it is the International managers. If we go down this route if Ronaldo doesn't win it then you will basically be calling FIFA cheats and liars and I don't think that is the case.

Ronaldo had a fantastic season last year and I think he deserves to win every award possible.

Blatter believes that Ronaldo should be allowed to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid- if he wants to.
That isn't what has annoyed me, what has annoyed me is that Blatter has compared transfers to 'modern slavery'.
Quite how you can say that a player who is getting paid thousands a week, does his dream job and wins trophies a slave is ridicoulas.
If the player doesn't want to stay then why does he sign a new deal that will keep him at the club for a further five years?
There was speculation before he left for Euro 2008 but before he left he had said that he was staying, Madrid's tactics and what looks like a word from new Chelsea boss Scolari seems to have changed his mind. But what we do have to remember is that Ronaldo hasn't really said anything yet- apart from 'my future will be announced in 2-3 days' (twice) and that Real Madrid will be his dream move but dreams don't always happen.

Here is what Blatter has said:
"I'm always in favour of protecting the player and if the player wants to leave let him leave," he told Sky News.
"If the player wants to play somewhere else, then a solution should be found because if he stays in a club where he does not feel comfortable to play then it's not good for the player and for the club.
"I think in football there's too much modern slavery in transferring players or buying players here and there, and putting them somewhere.
"We are trying now to intervene in such cases. The reaction to the Bosman law is to make long-lasting contracts in order to keep the players and then if he wants to leave, then there is only one solution, he has to pay his contract."

Yesterday Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has said that he expects Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at United but I can't help but feel a by synical about what he has said.
United Chief Executive David Gill and Ramon Calderon are expected to meet today at the European Club Association general assembly in Switzerland for the first time since rumours of Ronaldo's departure have surfaced.
I think this is why he is cooling it down and also because they have been warned from FIFA about their future conduct on signing Ronaldo.
Calderon said:
"The most probable outcome as of today is that Cristiano Ronaldo will continue to play for Manchester United next year,"
"Theoretically we still have time, there are still two months left until the end of August."
"We have not had any discussions with Ronaldo because United said they don't want to sell and we don't want to be disrespectful to them,"
"I wouldn't like to interfere in a relationship between player and club."
"I have heard that he has said many times that he would like to go to Madrid and it is his dream," he said.
"But we can't say any more as it could be misinterpreted and we wouldn't like to upset Manchester.
"I don't know if he will play for Real Madrid next season. We will only do what Manchester United want to do with the player.
"We are very good friends with Manchester United and they have said many times that they don't want to sell the player so we can't do anything.
"If they say sometime that they would like to sell we will be there and will ask."

I have absolutly no respect for Real Madrid and I am loosing respect for Ronaldo, he has said twice that his future will be announced in 2-3 days but it still hasn't been announced weeks later.
The sooner it is sorted, the better.

I don't believe a word anybody associated with Real Madrid say and I will only believe that they have accepted defeat when it is all sorted out.

Yesterday FIFA said that they won't officially punish Real Madrid but they have been warned unofficially of the way that they are conducting their business.

Today the rumours are that Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to hand in a transfer request to Manchester United.
Reports are also saying that sources 'close' to Ronaldo have said that he said he is going to do 'whatever it takes' to leave United.

Ronaldo has recently signed a new contract with United, so we are under no obligation to sell Ronaldo, what Ronaldo can personally do is to hand in a transfer request or refuse to turn upto pre-season training and even go on strike.

What United fans have to remember is that all these rumours are coming from a dodgy Spanish newspaper (Marca), a Brazilian website or so called close friends of Ronaldo, so I personally wouldnt believe anything until I see Ronaldo say it.

He is expected to release a statement after Portugal are knocked out of Euro 2008 or after they win it.

Yesterday Manchester United confirmed that they have reported Real Madrid to FIFA over Cristiano Ronaldo, but what can be done about it?
I am not expecting Real Madrid to be thrown out of the Champion's League or anything serious to be done, even though I think it should be done because it isnt the first time they have done this. I am expecting Real Madrid to be given a warning, possibly even a fine but with the amount they are thought to be offering for Ronaldo, a fine is hardly going to bother them.
Today Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says Manchester United have 'no evidence' to show Real Madrid have acted improperly.

"They don't have any evidence because nothing has happened," Calderon told reporters in Spain. "All there is is what the papers say and rumours that the player seems to want to leave.
"But at the moment a move is impossible because United don't want to sell him.
"It's United's right (to complain), but we haven't done anything and we are not going to do anything. It's a matter between the player and his club."

Whilst all this has been happening Ronaldo's brother has spoken on a radio station saying that Ronaldo wants to play for Real Madrid, and apparently Ronaldo had given him full permission to say this.
Ronaldo's mum has said that he will be staying at United, David Gill and Sir Alex Ferguson have said that Ronaldo will be staying.
The only person who has't come out to the press (I don't count the Brazilian website because I think that was made up) and said what he wants to do is Ronaldo himself.

"On May 27 Manchester United made clear its intention to report Real Madrid to FIFA if it continued to involve itself in the future of Ronaldo,"
"Unfortunately Real Madrid has not kept its own counsel and the club feels it has no alternative but to make a formal complaint to the world governing body."

What Punishment Would I Like To See Handed To Real Madrid?
Personally I would like FIFA to block the transfer and a massive fine, 10-15 million pounds will do.
What punishment would you like to see handed to them? I could be a fine, or it could be that they were deducted points or thrown out of the Champion's League.

Tonight is the Fifa World player Gala 2007 and Manchester United's winger Cristiano can get the award.
The three players who could recieve the award are Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Kaka (AC Milan) and Lionel Messi (Barcalona).

Kaka is the favourite to win the award and personally i think he will get it but you never no.
