Platini Doesn't Hate English Fans

For once, UEFA President Michel Platini has said something nice about England. Platini has said a lot about the Premier League’s spending, which was mainly aimed at Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and more recently Manchester City. However he didn’t say anything about Real Madrid’s spending and other high profile European clubs.

English fans have reacted to that and he has been labelled by many as Anglophobic. He has now tried to make amends by praising English fans and instead of putting things straight, he blamed the English media.

"Football belongs to the fans and you have great fans in England," he told The Daily Telegraph. "They love football. 

"They respect the decisions.
"England is the only country where they get angry about diving," he added.

"They are great football people. They don't disturb the life of the players - it's wonderful, but I am not so open to the business side. 

"I am not popular in England because of the journalists, but I see many fans on the plane and they seem to like me, we speak about my passion for English clubs.'' 

It is nice to hear something nice come out of the UEFA presidents mouth.

Barcelona Dominate Awards

SOCCER 2009 - UEFA Champions League Final - Barcelona Dazzles Manchester United 2-0
UEFA have released the names of the footballers that are in contention for the UEFA club football awards. Obviously the Champion’s League winners have quite a few players named. The awards will be presented throughout the Champion’s League group stage draw which is on the 27th August.

2010 World Cup Threatens Premier League

Premier League: Manchester United Champions 2009
The Premier League and Football Association are under increasing pressure to solve the 2010 fixture list to try and fit it in with the 2010 World Cup.


Fifa's rules state that no domestic football matches can't take place after the 16th May. Next season kicks off on the 15th August, that means that each team will have to play 38 league fixtures in 34 available weekends. 19 midweeks slots have already been ruled out because of UEFA Champion's League matches, Europa Cup matches and International matches.


"If there are FA Cup replays or displaced Premier League fixtures we're told they can't currently be played on Champions League or Europa Cup nights," said an insider involved in yesterday's club meeting. "There is also the potential for more fixture displacement depending on how clubs do in the Europa League."


Next week chief executives of the Football League, Premier League and FA are expected to meet to sort out this situation. It is looking like the Premier League will start on the 15th August and finish on the 9th May. The FA Cup is also going to be brought forward to the 16th May.


Manchester United had a bit of a fixture pile-up last season and it looks like it could become even worse next season.

Platini's New Idea


We all know that the UEFA president Michel Platini doesn't like England and it seems he is trying his best to prevent the English teams from being as powerful as they currently are in the Champion's League.

This time he is trying to tax high spenders and the teams won't be allowed to play in the Champion's League or Europa League (next season the UEFA Cup will turn into the Europa League) until they have paid the tax that they owe.

Platini wants a more level playing field throughout European football so the teams who spend massive amounts of money on transfers (in other words English teams) will have to pay tax. The money from the tax will be redistributed to smaller clubs in their league.

I'm personally not quite sure what to make of it, personally Platini is doing my head in, it always seems that he hates the English and wants to prevent us from being so dominant.
It could be a good idea but I would expect the tax to be on £25 million plus but I believe it should be set at £35 million plus.

I suppose we will have to wait and see what happens.

The 'Super Championship'



Sometimes I can't believe what I am reading and it happened again today. I went onto goal.com and read that the UEFA president Platini is ready to consider European Super-Championship plans.


No, I hadn't heard of it either. Apparently some of Europe's top clubs have been secretly talking about a brand new football competition which will totally discredit the Champion's League.

Europe’s top clubs (such as Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid) are ready to break away and form an elite three-tiered ‘Super-Championship’. This is thought to be happening because clubs are in money crisis.

Clubs are only in money crisis because they are spending stupid amounts on players, if the money in the transfer market went down, it would benefit everyone.

This would devalue the Champion's League and I am against the idea, it is ridiculous.

Platini is apparently ready to consider the plans, he said “UEFA is a democratic organisation, [really?]”
“We will listen to everyone and we will seek the view of all stakeholders. And then, when the time comes, it will be up to the executive committee to decide.” If it is anything like the English FA's 'executive' committee who decide on red cards then we will be in big trouble.

Good News For United Fans Travelling To Moscow

There is expected to be more than 42,000 United and Chelsea fans travelling to Moscow and Russia has waived normal visa requirements for a 72-hour period for football fans with a ticket for the Champions League final in Moscow.
The visa exemption will apply between 19 and 23 May.
Platini (president of Uefa) has thanked the Russian government for an "unprecedented gesture".
This means that supporters will need to present a valid match ticket, passport and a completed immigration form on arrival in Russia, Uefa has confirmed.
Anyone overstaying the time limit will have to pay the fee for a regular visa when leaving the country.

Is anyone going to the Moscow match? I would love to go but i have to go to a wedding on the 20th May.

Lyon fined over Ronaldo incident

In the knock out round of the Champion's League United played Lyon. In the first half of the first leg one of the Lyon fans aimed a bid green laser at Ronaldo to try and put him off.
This afternoon Lyon have been fined 3,200 euros, i think that is around 2000 pounds which is not alot at all considering the size of the club.

The fine was imposed for "incidents of an unsporting nature," UEFA said in a statement.

I dont think that was enough money to fine the club, what do you think?

UEFA to investegate Ronaldo being lasered








During the Champions League match at Lyon, United winger Cristiano Ronaldo had a laser aimed at him by a Lyon fan.
UEFA have confirmed that they have opened disciplinary proceedings against Lyon.

United reported the incident and Uefa's Control and Disciplinary Committee will now examine evidence in preparation for a hearing on 20th March.

This isnt the first time a player has been targeted by a laser, i can remember Chelsea striker Didier Drogba being targeted by a laser too. Lets hope UEFA do something about it.
