Di Michele: Spalletti Better Than Ferguson

What is it with some people?
I may be a biast Manchester United fan but I couldn't believe what I was reading this morning. I went onto the goal.com website and saw the headline: Di Michele Exclusive: Roma Coach Spalletti Better Than Ferguson And Mourinho.

Come off it!
How is Spalletti better than Fergie?

West Ham Striker Di Michele said:
"I think the best [coach] of all is Spalletti. I will put Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho roughly on the same level," Di Michele told Goal.com.

"I say Spalletti from a technical point of view as well as a human one. I have always had a good feeling about him."

He can't honestly believe this. Managers are judged by what they win, so what have Sir Alex and Spalletti won?

Sir Alex Ferguson:

St. Mirren (1974–1978)
Scottish First Division: 1976-77

Aberdeen (1978–1986)
Scottish Premier Division: 1979-80, 1983-84, 1984-85
Scottish Cup: 1981–82, 1982–83, 1983–84, 1985–86
Scottish League Cup: 1985-86
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1982–83
UEFA Super Cup: 1983

Manchester United (1986–present)
FA Charity/Community Shield: 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2007, 2008
UEFA Champions League: 1998–99, 2007–08
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1990–91
UEFA Super Cup: 1991
Intercontinental Cup: 1999
FIFA Club World Cup: 2008

Luciano Spalletti
Spalletti lead Empoli to two consecutive promotions from Serie C1 to Serie A.

I think that says it all. Fergie has got to be one, in not, the worlds best manager. Spalletti is a promising manager but I don't think you can compare the two of them.

Fergie the best manager is hard to call based on the resource and money at his disposal. Surely Rochdale's manager in the shadow of Manchester United in terms of geography, does a better job with litle cash and small fan base!!!

Hi AntiManu, thanks for your comment. Money isn't always everything and great examples are Manchester City and Chelsea.

Ok Chelsea have had a few good years but to be successful you have to do it over many years and that is what Fergie has done.

  3. AntiManu - in 1994 Fergie won the league without spending a single penny in the previous summer.

In 1996 he won it by spending £1.75 million the summer before.

In 1993 he won it by selling three top players (Hughes, Ince and Kanchelskis) and buying NOBODY !! He did introduce some 'kids' called Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Neville G, Neville P etc etc....

Fergie has done it with money and without money and his record of trophies won is second to none.
