After the controversial moment between Cristiano Ronaldo and Steven Taylor during Newcastle United vs Manchester United on Wednesday, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says that he is pleased that Taylor didn't get a ban.
It looked like Taylor hit Ronaldo on the side of his face/neck which saw Ronaldo fly, rather dramatically and roll around for a bit holding the front of his face. Many say that he should have been sent off or given a ban but there are reasons why it could work out for the better.
If Taylor was banned he will miss three matches, during that time Newcastle play United's title rivals- Chelsea. The ban doesn't affect United because they don't have to play Newcastle again.
Fergie said: “The disciplinary situation does confuse you at times. No-one is really clear about it. But in actual fact we did not want the boy suspended because now he can play against Chelsea and Arsenal.”
