Manchester United 2-0 Inter Milan (agg 2-0)

Last night Manchester United knocked Italian giants Inter Milan out of the UEFA Champion's League after a 2-0 win. United were brilliant in the first leg, we should have really won it comfortably but we didn't score and that meant that we had to win by a few goals last night, away goals do count in this part of the Champion's League.

We didn't have long to wait until there was the first goal, only four minutes in and Man United were 1-0 up. Ryan Giggs swung in United's corner and Nemanja Vidic powerfully headed the ball in.
Inter Milan's first shot at goal came from a freekick in the 11th minute but it was picked up comfortably by Edwin Van Der Sar. Two minutes later and Inter Milan had another freekick, this one was also taken comfortably by Van Der Sar.

Manchester United started off really well but after the goal, we sat back a bit and let Inter Milan have some more possession which gave them a bit more confidence. Dimitar Berbatov and Cristiano Ronaldo both had shots, Berbatov's was on target but wasn't powerful enough to trouble Julio Cesar and Ronaldo's was off target - high and wide.

Wayne Rooney was extremely unlucky when he connected first time with Patrice Evra's ball in but the ball went just wide of the post. One Inter Milan player in particular was really starting to get on my nerves- Mario Balotelli. Even at the slightest touch he fell over, he is even worse than what Cristiano Ronaldo was when he came to Manchester United.

27 minutes in and Inter were given another freekick when Zlatan Ibrahimovich went down rather easily, Maicon's great freekick found Ibrahimovich at the post and he headed it past the post. United were lucky, bad defending, nobody was marking Ibrahimovich.
Minutes later and an Balotelli was on the floor again after a challenge by John O'Shea, freekick to Inter Milan. Nothing came of the freekick, O'Shea headed it away.

10 minutes before half time and Inter Milan could have equalised, Dejan Stankovic's shot goes wide, goalkick to Man United, Stankovic wanted a corner and replays showed that it was actually a tremendous save by Van Der Sar. It should have been a corner.

United go down the other end and nearly make it 2-0, Cesar was quickly off his line to block O'Shea's shot. It was fantastic play by Giggs who played the ball to Rooney, Rooney passed it straight away to O'Shea who should have done a bit better. Inter Milan straight away counter attack United, Ibrahimovich found Stankovic who's volley went incredibly close to going in but United escaped again and it was still 1-0 to Man United.
This suddenly picked Inter up and the game became exciting, Inter had yet another shot go just wide of the post.

Halftime and Man United were 1-0 up with an early goal from Vidic, we had rode our luck. A goal from Inter Milan would change the game.
Inter started the second half how they finished the first, with a shot fizzing just wide. We scored four minutes into the first half and we also scored four minutes into the second half.
Great approach play by Giggs, he found Rooney and Rooney's ball in was headed home by Ronaldo. That goal meant that Inter Milan had to score two goals.

Not long after United were handed a freekick, there was no way that the wall was 10 yards back so it was no surprise that Ronaldo's freekick hit the wall. Adriano was brought on for Stankovich in the 58th minute and he made an immediate impact. His first touch was a left footed volley which had beaten Van Der Sar but it hit the inside of the post and bounced away.

That scare picked United up, United went down the other end and Rooney's shot was brilliantly saved by Cesar. Giggs picked up the rebounding ball and laid it off to Berbatov (who hadn't really done much) and Cesar made another great save.
Ronaldo then had a chance to run at Inter's Defenders, and he fired the ball past Cesar's post.
63 minutes in and United were testing Cesar again, Rooney fired the ball at Cesar who kept it out of the back of the net again.

69 minutes in and Fergie made his first change, Anderson came on for Paul Scholes. Rooney picked up a pointless yellow card when he fouled Maicon, he wasn't going anywhere so there was no need to foul him.
Both teams now were having shots but they were all of target, as long as Inter's were off target, I was happy.

86 minutes in and Ronaldo was so close to his second goal and it would have been a stunning goal. Cesar pushed away Ronaldo's fierce freekick, so close to a third goal.
The game finished 2-0 to United, over both legs we deserved it. It has been a great two days for English football, United beat Inter, Chelsea beat Juventus and Liverpool beat Real (I would have preferred Real to go through so we could show them exactly who the better team is). Arsenal went through last night after beating Roma 7-6 on penalties, apparently Arsenal were awful and should have gone through.

Very solid performance from United. I was worried before the game, but not from the fourth minute onward.

I was worried before the game aswell, all Inter needed was an away goal and that could have shaken United. Thanks for your comment Hakan.
