Newcastle United 1-2 Manchester United Review

After Chelsea and Liverpool both won on Tuesday, last night Manchester United really needed a win, which is what we got.

Van Der Sar, Berbatov, Rooney and Carrick were all brought back into the squad and they started after the Carling Cup final on Sunday.
The game didn't get of to the best of starts when an early mistake by who else but Van Der Sar, handed Newcastle United an early goal.
Newcastle were only ahead for nine minutes when a superb turn and shot from Rooney equalised for United.
A bad mistake by Newastle defender Taylor handed Man United their second goal which takes us seven points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool with a game against Portsmouth in hand.

Before this match, Van Der Sar hadn't conceded in 1,303 minutes in the Premier League but this record only lasted for nine minutes into the game when Van Der Sar saved Gutierrez's shot but he spilled the ball which fell perfectly for Lovenkrands who easily knocked it into the back of the net.
It was a massive shame that such a terrible mistake put an end to Van Der Sar's clean sheets.

Newcastle nearly went 2-0 up when Martins shot went just wide of the post, Newcaslte looked confident and were causing some problems in the Man United defence.
The defence struggled last night, Vidic wasn't his normal outstanding self and Van Der Sar made a few wrong decisions.

Manchester United did equalise not long after Newcastle's goal, O'Shea found Rooney in the penalty area, Rooney turned and fired a shot at goal, the ball took a slight deflection and went past Harper. It is Rooney's goal, it only took a very slight deflection but I think it would have gone in anyway.

38 minutes in and Vidic should really have given United the lead when he couldn't direct his header from around 2 yards out on goal. Vidic wasn't being marked and had an empty goal to aim at, instead of the ball going into the back of the net, it was Vidic who went into the back of the net.

Before half time, there was a talking point. Taylor cuffed onto Ronaldo which ended up with Ronaldo flying off the pitch, in pain, well what looked like pain. Taylor was shown only a yellow card, which was lucky for him but in the end, things were levelled out.

Second half and it was Taylor who handed Manchester United the winner. Vidic was off the pitch with a head injury so Rooney was playing at right back, Rooney's long ball was chested back towards his keeper by Taylor, the ball was never going to get to Harper, Park beat Harper to the ball and slid it to Berbatov who couldn't miss.

From then on, Man United looked like they were going to get the win but Newcastle carried on and credit to them because they made it a good game. Most teams sit back with 10 men behind the ball against Man United but they didn't and they made it an enjoyable game to watch.

United have gone seven points ahead in the Premier League with a game in hand.
