Barcelona FC vs Chelsea FC



FC Barcelona’s journey to the Champion’s League final started in the third qualifying round against Wisla Krakow. Barca won 4-0 in the first leg with goals from Samuel Eto’o (x2), Thierry Henry and Xavi Hernandez. Barcelona won the second leg 1-0 with a goal from Cleber.

Barcelona were drawn with FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Sporting Lisbon and Basel. Barca finished top of the group playing six times, winning four, drawing one and loosing one. Barca scored 18 goals, they let in eight goals which gave them a goal difference of 10.
Barcelona’s first group match was against Sporting Lisbon at Camp Nou. Marquez gave Barca a 21st minute lead, that was followed by a penalty which Eto’o took and he gave Barcelona a 2-0 lead. 72 minutes Tonel pulled a goal back for Sporting but the game was put to bed when Xavi got Barcelona’s third in the 87th minute.

Barca’s second group stage match was away against Shakhtar, Ilsinho gave Shakhtar a shock lead in the 45th minute. Barcelona hit back with two goals in the second half, they both came from Messi, the first in the 87th minute, the second in 90+4.

The third game was an easy away 5-0 win against Basel. The goals came from Messi (4), Busquets (15), Krkic (22 and 46), their final goal came from Xavi in the 48th minute.

The next game was also against Basel, this time it was a home match. This game was less easy for Barcelona who were held to a 1-1 draw. Messi gave Barca the lead in the 62nd minute, 82 minutes in Derdiyok equalised for Basel.

The penultimate group stage match was against Sporting at Estadio Jose Alvalade. There were many goals in this game, the first was scored by Henry for Bara in the 14th minute, three minutes late Pique scored Barcelona’s second. 49 minutes into the match Messi scored Barcelona’s third.
Miguel Veloso pulled a goal back for Sporting 65 minutes into the game, one minute later Liedson pulled another goal back for Sporting.
A minute after that goal Marco Caniera scored an own goal which gave Barcelona a 4-1 lead.
73 minutes into the game and Krkic got Barcelona’s fifth. The match finished Sporting 2-5 Barca.

The final group game was against Shakhtar at Camp Nou with one of the surprises in the group stages. Gladkiy gave Shakhtar a 31st minute lead and then a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute.
59 minutes in Sylvinho got Barca a goal back but Fernandinho scored in the 76th minute to give Shakhtar a 3-1 lead.
83 minutes in Busquets scored the final goal of the game for Barca. The match finished Barca 2-3 Shakhtar.



Then came the first knockout rounds, Barcelona were drawn against Lyon. The first leg was at Lyon’s Stade Gerland. Juninho Pernambucano gave Lyon an early lead but Henry pulled a goal back for Barca, the match finished 1-1.
There was a spectacular match in the second leg at Camp Nou. Barcelona scored four goals in 18 minutes- Henry 25 minutes in, two minutes later he scored again. Lionel Messi put Barca 3-0 up and Eto’o scored a fourth for Barcelona.
Lyon scored on either side of half time with goals from Jean II Makoun and Juninho.
Juninho was sent off during five minutes of stoppage time, not long after Seydou Keita scored Barcelona’s fifth. The match finished Barcelona 5-2 Lyon, 6-3 on aggregate.

Quarter-finals and Barcelona were drawn against German side Bayern Munich. The first leg was to be played at Camp Nou. Two first half goals from Mess plus one each from Eto’o and Henry put Barca in a really strong position. The match finished 4-0 to Barcelona.
Second leg at Fussball Arena Munchen and Bayern had it all to do. Franck Ribery put Bayern 1-0 up early in the second half, surely it was too late for a comback. Keita replied for Barcelona with an equalising goal. The second leg finished 1-1, Barca beat Bayern 5-1 on aggregate.

Semi-finals and Barcelona were drawn against one of England’s top sides- Chelsea.
The first leg at the Nou Camp finished 0-0. Chelsea played defensively and Barcelona should have had a penalty, other than that, not much happened.
The second leg proved to be a very controversial match. Michael Essien put Chelsea 1-0 up nine minutes in with a stunning goal, after that Chelsea should have been given four blatant penalties but none were given. Three minutes into injury time of the second half and Andres Iniesta scored an equalising goal for Barcelona, the away goal sent Barca through to the Champion’s League final.

Tomorrow Barcelona take on Manchester United in Rome for the title of being crowned European Champion’s.
