Match Review: Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United

LIVERPOOL V ATHLETICO MADRID

Ok, so Liverpool have just beaten Man United 2-0 and I really am not happy. United can’t just blame the referee but saying that, he definitely played his part.

Fernando Torres was named as man of the match- that probably explains everything. All he did was score a goal and fall to the floor. Especially during the first half, Torres fell over everytime a Man United player touched him and he even managed to trip himself up- even then he was given a freekick.

The referee didn’t have the best of matches, especially during the first half. Liverpool got the breaks but overall United didn’t create enough chances to score goals. If you don’t create chances and score goals, you aren’t going to win the game.

Nemanja Vidic must have something written down in his contract saying that he must be sent off against Liverpool. This was the third consecutive time he has been sent off against the club.
Vidic did have a good game, he was United’s best player. It was a shame that he was sent off but he gave the referee no choice.

I am not happy either with the non-red card for Jamie Carragher. He was the last man when he brought down Michael Owen. Owen would have gone straight past him and that should have been a red. A minute later, Vidic does the same thing and it is him off. Fair enough, Vidic was already on a yellow but Carragher should have been off.

Mascherano was sent off for Liverpool not long after Vidic was sent off. Both players deserved to be sent off but Liverpool should have finished with 10 men.

To make matter worse, in stoppage time N'gog went on to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead in stoppage time.

Man United had to play CSKA Moscow in Russia on Wednesday whilst Liverpool played Lyon at Anfield on Tuesday. Would this have been a factor? I don’t think so, this was another poor performance by United, one of many recently. We aren’t playing well and something needs to change.

Why did United loose?

Liverpool weren’t great, we deserved a point out of the game so it wasn’t because of that. We were poor, the referee was poor, Torres couldn’t stay on his feet. These were all factors off the loss.

Last season Liverpool did the double over United and we still beat them to the title by four points. Liverpool were never out of the title race but I still believe it is between United and Chelsea.

Liverpool fans will gloat, Chelsea will be happy and so will Arsenal. It isn’t a disaster for United, it Liverpool had lost- that would have been a disaster. Over the past few season’s we haven’t done really well against the other top four teams, we have still gone on to win the title.

There is a bright side to the defeat. Rafa Benitez won’t be sacked and whilst Liverpool are managed by Benitez, I don’t think they will win the Premier League.
