Fergie Could Be In Trouble Again

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson could be in trouble with the FA again. Sir Alex made some remarks about referee Andre Marriner, questioning his experience.

It was obvious to everyone that the refereeing display yesterday by Marriner wasn’t at his best. Early on in the game, Fernando Torres clipped the back of his own leg and fell over, the referee thought Patrice Evra had fouled him. A few minutes later, Evra was booked.

Later on in the game, Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher pulled down Michael Owen and should have been sent off- he wasn’t. A minute or two later, Nemanja Vidic did a similar thing. Unfortunetly earlier on in the game, Vidic was wrongly shown a yellow card and this time he was off. This was the third consecutive time that Vidic has been sent off against Liverpool.

Ferguson said: "Their fans were fanatical and, for every decision, they put the referee under pressure all the time."

"The booking of [Patrice] Evra came after Torres had clipped his own heels, but the atmosphere surrounding it forced the referee to book him."

"The crowd also got Vidic booked, but this atmosphere is hard to handle for a referee."

"Whether he had enough experience or not, I don't know, but he will certainly learn from it. We lost out to one or two major decisions."

"I felt [a Jamie Carragher challenge on] Michael Carrick in the first-half was a penalty kick."

"He has clearly gone over the top of the ball on Carrick. But the controversial one that everyone will be talking about is when he [Carragher] brought Michael Owen down on the edge of the box."

"He is their most experienced player, their best defender without question, so if he goes off at that stage of the game it would be difficult for Liverpool."
