Premier League Review: Manchester United 2-2 Sunderland

What can I say about yesterday’s game against Sunderland? After the game yesterday, I was fairly happy that United had managed to salvage a point out of the game, this morning I am disappointed- how were we so bad?

The Man United starting XI was- Ben Foster, John O’Shea, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Luis Nani, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher, Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

Why didn’t Ryan Giggs start? He has been on top form over the past few matches? He has been the man who has inspired the play he has won us matches. We have International matches over the next week or so, he has retired from International football. As far as I know he isn’t injured, why wasn’t he even on the bench?

None of the Man United players played well yesterday. I don’t think I can pick out a player who had a good game. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to take anything away from Sunderland, they deserved to get more out of the match.

Sunderland went ahead pretty early on into the game when Darren Bent put the ball straight past Foster.

To show how bad we were especially in the first half- we didn’t even manage a shot in the first half.

Berbatov equalised for us in the second half with a stunning bicycle kick and after that we had more possession and looked like scoring a second.

Sunderland had other things on their mind. Kenwyne Jones headed Sunderland ahead with a poor goal for United to concede. I still can’t understand why Foster didn’t come out to catch a lobbed ball into the area. Is it because he is low on confidence?

Late on into the game Kieran Richardson was sent off for Sunderland after kicking the ball away needlessly. The referee showed him a second yellow and he was off. Minutes into stoppage time Anton Ferdinand diverted Evra’s shot past his keeper and into the back of the net.

It was an off day yesterday; we just weren’t the normal Man United. Things weren’t working and we now have to wait until the 17th October until we can do something about it against Bolton.

Hopefully Liverpool and Chelsea can draw today at Stamford Bridge. If they do then we will still be top of the table. If Chelsea win then they will go two points ahead of us.
