Premier League Review: Man United 3-0 Everton

MANCHESTER UNITED V VALENCIA CF

Before yesterday’s game against Everton, I wasn’t quite sure of what we were going to see. Man United don’t tend to be at their best after International games but there was nothing to worry about. Man United eased to a comfortable 3-0 win over Everton and it could have been more than that.

Both teams weren’t at full strength but Jack Rodwell, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford did start, it was thought he was injured. Former Man United striker Louis Saha also started for the Toffees.

Man United got off to a good start, Wayne Rooney had a shot go wide and Ryan Giggs saw one of his saved by former United keeper Tim Howard. The most Everton really tested United in the first half was a striker by Saha, which was comfortably saved by Edwin Van Der Sar.

United dominated the game and finally a stunning strike by Darren Fletcher gave United the lead. Patrice Evra crossed the ball in; Antonio Valencia flicked the ball on to Fletcher who volleyed the ball into the top corner of the goal.

Immediately into the second half, Everton brought on Ayegbeni Yakubu

for Dan Gosling, this did make a bit of a change- they did threaten a bit more. Yakubu put Tim Cahill through in on goal but Van Der Sar was quickly off the line to beat Cahill. Then substitute Yakubu hit a shot just wide.

Everton were starting to get back into the game and it looked like they could pull a goal back, when United went down the other end and went 2-0 up. Rooney’s shot went to the other side of the pitch to Giggs. Awful shot but Giggs got the ball, he picked out Michael Carrick, who had a lot of space and time to stick the ball into the back of the net.

Michael Owen had a rare start for Man United, he provided some good movement and he had one or two half chances but no goals. Owen is getting chances, I think he just needs one to go in and then he will grab himself a load more.

Valencia finished off the scoring for United. Substitute Paul Scholes passed the ball to Valencia, and a deflection off Leighton Baines gave United a 3-0 win and three points.

There was no Dimitar Berbatov or Luis Nani in the squad. As I understand it, Berbatov picked up a knee injury whilst playing for Bulgaria.

I don’t know what was going on with Nani, I don’t think he is injured, maybe it was the comments he came out with the other day.

Chelsea won 4-0 at home against Wolves, not much of a suprise. Arsenal lost 1-0 away to Sunderland, that was a surprise. That also meant that we have gone back upto second and five points behind Chelsea.
