Reports today are suggesting that Man United officials are keeping an eye on Benfica’s talented 22-year old central defender David Luiz. It is believed by the Daily Mail that Man United will make a bid for the Brazilian during the summer.
It is also believed that Man United will bid €12 million for the defender, who can also slot in at left-back. Luiz has been at Benfica since 2007, he joined on loan and signed to the club at the end of the season.
David Luiz played with Brazil's Under-20 team at the 2007 FIFA World Cup, he has made a total of 24 appearance for the U-20’s.
Man United are bound to be linked with many upcoming central defenders, especially considering that Nemanja Vidic has been linked with a move away. Rio Ferdinand has also been struggling with injuries but we can’t forget that we have Jonny Evans and we will have Chris Smalling joining us during the summer. United also have some talented youngsters in the reserves but only Sir Alex Ferguson and his staff will really know if they could make it into the first team.
