Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benitez may not have got on last season (that is putting it lightly) but the United manager does have some sympathy for the Liverpool boss.

According to the Mirror, Sir Alex has offered the olive branch to Benitez and offers his sympathy.

Liverpool and Man United have had mixed season’s. United have won the Carling Cup and are still in the running for the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool on the other hand are fighting for the fourth place and final Champions League spot in the Premier League and are in the Europa Cup.

Is that why Fergie is being nice? If Liverpool were competing against United for the same trophies, would Sir Alex have sympathy for Benitez? Is it all just mind games, he is the best at those?

I’m not quite convinced but hopefully Benitez responds.
