Late Comeback Stuns Man United

With only minutes remaining during the game against Everton earlier on today, it looked like Man United would walk away with all three points after they were leading 3-1. After two late injury time goals, both teams left Goodison Park with a point.

Rooney made the headlines ahead of the game with his off field exploits; Rooney did not travel because Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to protect him from abuse from the Everton fans.

The Toffees got off to the better start, during that period Mikel Arteta saw his strike hit the bar. United gradually got themselves back into the game, Tim Howard had to make two brilliant saves. The first came after a well-worked freekick, which ended in Howard having to save Scholes’ strike with his foot. Not long after he denied Ryan Giggs a goal, the follow up shot by Darren Fletcher was blocked.

With only six minutes remaining of the first half, Everton took the lead after a really bad error from Patrice Evra. The defender attempted to clear the ball, but missed it, which put Arteta clear through on goal, his shot was saved by Edwin Van Der Sar. The rebound fell to Leon Osman, who found Steven Pienaar and he was able to put the ball past the Dutchman.

Man United were able to grab an equaliser with two minutes remaining of the first half. Luis Nani’s cross found Fletcher, who put the ball past Howard.

It took only two minutes into the second half for Man United to take the lead, captain Nemanja Vidic headed United in front and Nani had another assist to his his name.

It looked like the game had been put to bed after Scholes picked out Berbatov, the Bulgarians low shot gave United a two goal cushion.

Three minutes of injury time were added on at the end of the game, early into that it looked like Tim Cahill had managed to score a consolation goal for the home side. Just second after the re-start Arteta’s deflected strike levelled up the game, which finished Everton 3-3 Man United.

Man United are now two points behind Arsenal and four behind Chelsea, who both won today.
