Blackpool v Manchester United Preview

Manchester United have the opportunity to go five points clear of Arsenal, if they beat Blackpool at Bloomfield Road tomorrow evening. United have currently played 22 games, compared to Arsenal who have played 23. Man City, who sit in third place have played 24 games and are three points behind Man United.

Sir Alex Ferguson has a couple of injury concerns ahead of the game. United won't make a decision on Rio Ferdinand until tomorrow and Michael Carrick is expected to not be fit enough to start and be replaced by Darren Fletcher.

Rafael Da Silva is available after serving a one-match ban. Ji-Sung Park is away on international duty and will be unavailable along with Owen Hargreaves and Antonio Valencia who are both injured.

Man United squad: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Lindegaard, Rafael, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Nani, Obertan, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson, Anderson, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Owen and Bebe.

Blackpool are without Stephen Crainey who has been ruled out with an ankle injury. Also unavailable are Chris Basham, David Carney, Billy Clarke, Matthew Gilks and Malaury Martin.

The home side will have DJ Campbell and Richard Kingston available after returning from injury. Although captain Charlie Adam has handed in a transfer request, he has been included in the squad.

The two clubs have played each other a total of 84 times in all competitions, Man United have won 46 times, lost 21 times and there have been 17 draws. The last time the two sides met was back on the 26th April 1975 in the English Division 2 (old), United beat Blackpool 4-0.

Peter Walton has been named as the referee who will take charge of the game. So far this season has has refereed 18 games, in which he has shown 61 yellow cards and eight red cards. Walton has refereed only one game involving Man United this season; the 2-2 draw in August against Fulham. Walton hasn't officiated any games involving Blackpool this season.
