West Ham 0-1 Manchester United Review

Manchester United took on West Ham who, joint with Man United were the Premier League's form side, this meant a difficult match but hopefully a great one to watch.

We haven't conceded a goal in the league since 8th November but we have lost to West Ham the last two times we have been to Upton Park, we lost.

Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra didn't even travel, hopefully they should be fit to play in next weeks FA Cup match against Derby. Man United made three changes from the last match against Everton- Rafael da Silva came in for Gary Neville (virus), Paul Scholes came in for Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs replaced Ji-Sung Park.

Carlos Tevez was received well by the West Ham faithful, they cheered when his name was read out and the whole crowd clapped him off when he was substituted later on in the match. This is great to see, it would be nice to see a lot more teams do that with former players. Although I can understand in some cases, you really wouldn't want to clap or cheer a player.

The first shot in the match fell to Giggs, who skewed it horrible wide. Giggs did start on the right which isn't his best position what with him being left footed. Man United kept the ball for the first 10 but didn't really threaten on goal that much.

The Hammers first chance came from a corner in the 11th minute, Lucas Neill fired a tame ball at goal which Edwin Van Der Sar saved comfortably.
That was followed by another chance for West Ham, Carlton Cole was running at goal, he was being tugged slightly by Ferdinand but Cole stayed on his feet and tried to chip Van Der Sar but Van Der Sar made his second save in a matter of minutes.

Five minutes later, Berbatov had a great shot headed away by Collins. Man United did have the ball in the back of the net. Scholes fired in a shot from a corner, it took a deflection off a defender and fell to Berbatov, he put it into the back of the net but it was ruled out because of offside.

January's Barclay's Premier League Player Of The Month (Vidic) nearly had a goal, it was from a corner but Vidic' shot was blocked by a West Ham player.

Man United had a few more chances before the second half, Scholes had a trademark shot but it hit a defender and went out for a corner, he also unleashed another powerful shot, which again came from a corner after not being picked up, the shot was going well wide but Ronaldo managed to direct it towards goal which brought out great save by Green.

Not long after that, Ronaldo had a stunning shot which brought out another brilliant save by Green.
35 minutes in and Van Der Sar had broken the British record for minutes without conceding a goal.

Just before half time, West Ham nearly went ahead, Cole had a shot which was fantastically blocked by Vidic.

Second half and the first chance fell to West Ham, Behrami had a shot which hit a Man United defender which went wide. The resulting corner ended up with a freekick to Man United.
Minutes later, Van Der Sar had to make another save, this time it was from a Neill shot from the left but Van Der Sar's still had his clean sheet.

The one and only goal in the match came in the 62nd minute and it was a goal well worth winning a match.
Scholes got the ball to Giggs on the left, Giggs weaved inside and his low shot went straight past Green. This was Giggs' first League goal this season which means that he has scored in every season that he has played in.

Man United may have gone a goal up and it looked like a difficult task for the Hammers but credit to them, they were still trying to get a goal.
In a matter of minutes West Ham had a corner and Man United finally cleared the ball, Ronaldo went up the other end and had a shot which was deflected for a corner. The corner was headed away by Illunga and a minute or two later Cole had a shot for the Hammers which was blocked by a Man United defender.

Late on in the match, Zola brought on two strikers to try and pull a goal back. But it was Man United with the ball at the other end of the field, Ronaldo went down in the penalty area after being clipped by Neill, ref says no penalty.

Two minutes of stoppage time were added on and during that time, it was West Ham with most of the possession. The final shot of the game fell to Collison but the ball flew wide.

Manchester United won 1-0, it took us back upto the top of the Premier League, another clean sheet and things are looking good.
