After becoming Manchester United's Carling Cup hero on Sunday, it looks like Ben Foster has earned himself a new contract with the club.
Foster put on a fantastic display on Sunday and has now been tipped by Sir Alex and United fans to succeed Van Der Sar as Manchester United's Number 1.
According to some tabloids, Foster will be offered a new four year deal which will be worth £25,000 a week. That is a lot of money to earn a week but it did surprise, especially when you consider that Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be offered a new contract worth £200,000 a week.
I would love to earn that amount of money but there is a big difference between those two sums, yes, Ronaldo can win games but Foster can save Man United loads of points and on Sunday he showed that he can win games aswell (it would be very occasional though because you don't get penalty shoot outs every week).
“I want to stay here for as long as I can,” he said. “It’s the biggest club in the world. At 25 I am still young for a goalkeeper so hopefully, I’ll have a decade or more here and I want this to be the first of many more trophies to come my way.
“Edwin has been fantastic this season. You have to look at his record of clean sheets. I wouldn’t have thought one final will lead to a run of games for me. I’m always confident when I get the chance to play – which isn’t too often at the moment so I just have to keep going."
