Manchester United 2-0 Portsmouth Review

Last night Manchester United beat Portsmouth 2-0 to take us back upto the top of the Premier League table. I think that yesterday's game was the perfect chance to boost our goal difference, there were six or seven great chances in the first half but we only converted one.

There was some bad news that came out of the game, John O'Shea and Gary Neville both had to go off with injuries and it looks like both of them will be missing for a few weeks.

The game was never going to be a fantastic one, Portsmouth were never really going to attack us a lot but a win was all that was needed. Saying that, Pompey did start off the better team until we scored in the 9th minute. Anderson fired a great ball to Giggs on the left, Giggs crossed a great ball to Rooney in the penalty area and Rooney hit the ball into the back of the net to give us a 1-0 lead.

For the rest of the first half we had quite a few chances but we didn't manage to convert any of them, that did slightly worry me, especially since one goal for Pompey would change the game but we did get a second. John O'Shea had a header cleared off the line, Giggs was denied by James a few times, Darren Fletcher and Anderson both had shots go just wide of the post.

There wasn't really much to say about the second half, it was fairly flat and boring but that could be because we do have a game Saturday evening. Rooney did impress me though, last night he was Man United's main man.

82 minutes in, Paul Scholes put Michael Carrick through on goal with a fantastic pass and Carrick calmly slotted the ball past James and into the back of the net. For most of the game, Edwin Van Der Sar was just a spectator and I am hoping it will be the same against Tottenham this Saturday.

We now only have six Premier League games left and they are difficult ones in which we could loose some points, so the title isn't ours yet but it is getting ever closer.
