Man United Shocked By Shirt

Man United have said that they are shocked by the decision of one of their 'fans' to have a shirt printed with a Hillsborough slur. The club has also branded the fan as a disgrace.

We all know about the Hillsborough tragedy (if you don't you can read about it here) and it was a horrible time for everyone associated with Liverpool. Man United have had their own tragedy (the Munich disaster) so Man United fans should be aware of the hurt and pain that people feel.

I want to say that the person who made up this shirt is a disgrace and obviously isn't a football fan. People were killed and no matter what team you support you should never make fun of it. Rival fans make fun of the Munich disaster and I hate it but I also hate it when Man United fans make fun of the Hillsborough disaster.

The supposed Man United fan Colm Jackson boasted on social networking group Facebook about buying the shirt which was purchased at Sports Direct in the Arndale Centre, in Manchester.

Head of communications for Man Utd, Philip Townsend, said: “We have checked our systems and Colm Jackson is not a season ticket holder.

“If he had been, we would have revoked his season ticket.

“What was printed on the back of the shirt is disgraceful.

“A true Manchester United fan would not share his views.”

Jackson's brother was one of the people who asked facebook to remove the image, he is a proper Man United fan.

“We are horrified at the stupidity of my brother’s actions. When I saw the shirt I took it off him and destroyed it immediately. It has never been worn outside. I don’t know what he was thinking.”

Margaret Aspinall, Chairwoman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, whose son James, 18, died in the disaster said: “I don’t accept his apology or the apology of Sports Direct, who should never have allowed it to be printed.

“For years we have fought for justice and with the 20th anniversary this year everybody knows about Hillsborough.

“I am pleased Manchester United had this response. Other United fans don’t deserve to be associated with him.

“After Hillsborough, we had a lot of support from United fans and continue to do so. Equally, I don’t want this incident to cause any trouble between fans and I don’t want a revenge attack.”

A spokesman for Sports Direct said: “Sports Direct has taken immediate action and changed the administration policy for printing football shirts across its network.”
