United's Youngsters Get Off To A Loosing Start


Man United’s Under 18’s got off to a loosing start today after suffering a 3-1 loss to Southampton. The Under 18’s Premier Academy League campaign started off at Carrington but unfortunately United didn’t take any points away from the game.

The Man United starting XI was- Sam Johnstone, Reece Brown, Ezekiel Fryers, Tom Thorpe, Wootton, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Nicky Ajose, Ravel Morrison, John Cofie, William Keane, Robbie Brady

Man United got off to a great start when Tunnicliffe's stunning strike gave Man United a 17 minute lead when he was put through on goal by Keane.

United were constantly looking for the all important second goal throughout the first half but we didn’t manage to get it.
Man United went into halftime 1-0 up but the second half wasn’t going to be so good.

49 minutes in Southampton got themselves an equalising goal after United’s defenders had a mix-up at the back. Southampton’s Keegan struck a 20-yard shot, which went past United goalkeeper Johnstone.

Three minutes after that Southampton took the lead. Brown conceded a penalty which was scored and United were 2-1 down.

Brady missed a good chance (it was a sitter) after receiving the ball from Ajose.

Man United had more chances, Morrison had a shot that went just wide. Tunnicliffe almost got his second goal but he was denied by a fantastic save by the Southampton goalkeeper.

United looked like they were going to get an equaliser but we were hit late on by a Southampton counter attack. Southampton’s third was a good strike by McNish.

The match finished 3-1 to Southampton, even though Man United were much the better team for most of the game.
