Man United Thrash Wigan 5-0

CHELSEA V MANCHESER UNITED
What a day it was yesterday. What Man United really had to do was come back from the Burnley defeat and they did that in style. There were seven changes for the Man United team who lost to Burnley- the main seeing Nemanja Vidic back in the United defence.

Man United’s first half display was a lot better than the whole one at Burnley but the second left quite a few Man United fans asking Ronaldo who?

Man United should really have gone 1-0 up at Wigan only four minutes in, Dimitar Berbatov laid they ball off to Luis Nani who cut the ball back to Darren Fletcher. Titus Bramble blocked Fletcher’s shot on the line.

Man United wasted a few chances throughout the first half, the next chance fell to Paul Scholes, he was teed up and he blasted his shot high over the crossbar. Most people, including myself would probably have bet a lot of money on him scoring that one. Wayne Rooney had a shot deflected and the other strikes were straight at goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.

With all of those chances I was starting to think that we might do the same thing again, we might have a load of possession, loads of chances and end up loosing 1-0.
That nearly happened when Ben Foster had to keep out a Jason Koumas strike, which was heading for the top corner of the goal.

Rooney was getting closer and closer to scoring his 100th goal for Man United but he was kept out by Kirkland- at one point he was put through on goal by Jonny Evans but Kirkland kept the ball out with his legs.

Berbatov was looking for his first goal of the season and I thought he was going to get it but Bramble made a fantastic tackle and got the ball away from Berba in the penalty area.

Wigan was the first team who nearly scored in the second half; Paul Scharner header went inches wide of the goal.

We had to wait until 56 minutes to see Man United score their first goal. Antonio Valencia was brought on to play against his former team (he was booed at every touch) and it was his cross which saw Rooney get his 100th goal. Valencia crossed the ball in from the right, Rooney timed his jump to perfection and he headed the ball past Kirkland.

After the re-start Wigan went to the Man United end and Foster had to make a wonderful save to deny Wigan. He then released the ball and United went down the other end and scored their second. Berbatov received the ball from Fletcher, he then knocked the ball past on onrushing Kirkland and he then hit the ball into the back of the net.

Man United looked like they were enjoying their football and the first two goals gave the players a lot more confidence. Rooney scored his 101st goal for Man United before he was substituted. Rooney picked up the ball on the left and his low shot took a slight deflection off Melchiot and into the left corner of the goal.
That wasn’t enough for United and not too long after there came a sight that Man United fans have been hoping for over the past few days. Michael Owen came on as a second half substitute and he scored his first Premier League goal for United.
Nani put through Owen on goal, he then lifted the ball over Kirkland and the ball hit the back of the net.

Two minutes were added on for stoppages and there was enough time for another goal. United were given a free kick after Berbatov was brought down.
Nani took a stunning free kick, which went over the wall and straight past a grounded Kirkland.

Hopefully this will give the confidence to put in a great performance against Arsenal next weekend.
