Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has warned football clubs that the big spending we have seen recently in the transfer windows could lead to financial disasters. Sir Alex has said that big clubs must act more responsibly.
Man United didn’t spend that much during the summer, which was a surprise to most of us because United did bank £80 million from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo. It is thought that these comments by Sir Alex are aimed at Manchester City and Real Madrid who both spent huge amounts over the summer.
"I think there is an awful lot of expenditure and you say to yourself: Where is it going to end?" Ferguson told The North West Business Insider.
"That is exactly what was happening in the business world two years ago. There were warning signs and everyone knew there were, yet they carried on because it was so easy to access loans.
"In the football world you say to yourself the warning signs are there, but nobody seems to be bothering about it. You wonder where it’s going to go and what is going to happen if one major club are to go, to collapse."
"The clubs involved cannot complain because they see a possibility of richer rewards ahead. That has got to be the carrot"
"But it is not easy winning things, definitely not easy, and they’ll soon find out."
He does have a point, United have spent big over recent season’s but Man City and Real Madrid have totally blown the transfer window out of the water. There aren’t many clubs, which can financially compete with Man City and Real Madrid.
It does need to be sorted out but will someone really do something about it?
