After last season’s 4-1 and 2-1 defeats to the hands of Liverpool at Old Trafford, Man United defender Rio Ferdinand is ready for revenge. Liverpool did the double over United last season but we still managed to go on and win the Premier League title. We may have won the title but the defeats still linger in the memories of the United players and fans minds.
On the 13th September 2008, Man United travelled to Anfield. We took an early three minute lead thanks to Dimitar Berbatov but Liverpool came back to win with goals from Wes Brown (own goal) and Ryan Babel. To add insult to injury Nemanja Vidic was sent-off late on.
On the 14th March 2009, there was an even worse result for United. Like in the Anfield game, United took an early lead. This time it was a penalty scored by Cristiano Ronaldo after Ji-Sung Park was fouled in the box. Eight minutes later, Fernando Torres equalised for Liverpool. 44 minutes in, Patrice Evra fouled Steven Gerrard who stepped up and scored the penalty.
With 15 minutes left, Vidic was sent off for the second time in one season against Liverpool. The away team then went on to score two more goals by Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena.
Rio Ferdinand is now ready to play Liverpool, he said:
"Games against Liverpool, the form goes out of the window"
"I don't know about knocking them out of the title race – we just want to do well for ourselves. That means beating them and who knows where that puts them. I don't really care"
"Two defeats last season against them hurts but would you take them beating us twice again if we won the league? Ask every player in the team and they would say 'yes'."
