United Reserves Beat Oldham and Two Players Return

Last night Man United winger Gabriel Obertan and defender Rafael da Silva finally recovered from injuries and played for United’s reserves. Obertan made his debut for United and it his Old Trafford career got off to a great start after United won 3-0.

Rafael has been out with a shoulder injury for what seems like ages but both players got through last nights match unscathed.

United’s starting line-up against Oldham’s reserves was- Ben Amos; Rafael da Silva, Scott Wootton, Oliver Gill, Fabio da Silva; Matthew James, Sam Hewson, Oliver Norwood; Gabriel Obertan, Febian Brandy and Robert Brady.

United’s win over Oldham was comfortable; although Obertan only played 45 minutes he shone.

United could have been 2-0 up within 20 minutes but Brandy’s two chances went just wide. Not long after that, Brandy did grab himself a goal. After a one-two with Hewson, Brandy was put through on goal and he calmly slotted the ball past the Oldham keeper.

A minute later, United were 2-0 up. Obertan got the ball to Fabio who ran at Oldham’s defence, Fabio set-up Hewson who stuck the ball into the back of the net.

United continued to be dominant and have more chances during the first half. Obertan and Rafael were both brought off at half time for Magnus Eikrem and Joshua King respectively.

Without Obertan, United struggled to calve out some clear-cut openings. Halfway through the second half, we started getting more opportunities.

There were no more goals until added time, King was put through on goal and he bagged United’s third goal.

This is another step forward for United in their defence of the Manchester Senior Cup.
