Premier League Preview: Portsmouth vs Manchester United

Premier League: United Back On Top

Tomorrow Man United take on Portsmouth down at Fratton Park. Portsmouth have just announced that former Chelsea manager Avram Grant will take over managerial duties. Grant’s first game for Chelsea was a 2-0 loss against Man United; his last was the Champions League final loss against Man United. His first game for Portsmouth is against Man United, I can see a pattern emerging, will his last for Portsmouth be against Man United later on in the season at Old Trafford?

Portsmouth’s number one goalkeeper David James is injured so Jamie Ashdown should start in goal. Pompey only have a few injury doubts, Papa Bouba Diop, John Utaka and Steve Finnan are all struggling to be fit.

Man United have many injury problems, mainly in defence. We are definitely without Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves. John O’Shea, Jonny Evans, Fabio da Silva and Dimitar Berbatov are all doubts.

Man United haven’t had the best of times down at Fratton Park over recent seasons but since we can’t afford to drop anymore points, nothing but a win is good enough.

The Man United youngsters may have lost 1-0 to Besiktas at home during midweek but we should see a totally different team. Chelsea have a tough away game to Arsenal this Sunday, so picking up three points before they kick-off is vital.

Predicted Man United starting XI- Edwin Van Der Sar, Rafael da Silva, Wes Brown, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

Predicted final score- Portsmouth 0-2 Man United
