Nani Was Never Going To Leave

Football - Manchester United v Portsmouth Barclays Premier League
At one point it looked almost certain that Man United winger Luis Nani would leave Old Trafford during the January transfer window. January has been and gone, Nani is still at Man United and has finally started hitting some form.

Nani has claimed that he never thought about leaving Man United and he is now aiming to become one of the world’s best footballers.

Whilst out on International duty with Portugal, Nani was quoted as saying:

"Ferguson is a very complicated man.

"He's tough. If things are all right, then they are all right. But when he thinks something is wrong, everything is screwed.

"He can go from complimenting you to just plain trashing you in a matter of minutes. Has it happened to me? Hell, yes! He'll say 'Nani, how could you miss this or this'?"

"He shouts at players in front of everyone. No one escapes, everybody is the same. Giggs and Neville suffer most, because they have more experience. It is 'F**k' here and 'F**k' there."

"People expect more from me and it's not easy. But they are also not doing what they said they were going to.

"I know it would be better if I scored more goals.
"I can have a spectacular game but nobody guarantees me I will be starting the next match. It shatters your confidence.

"I did not play the important matches, against Liverpool, Manchester City or Tottenham. Not playing these games, I am a bit sad. But for now I am not considering leaving."

Since those comments, he was linked to many clubs. But after recovering from injury, Nani has been an important part of Man United’s last four games.

Quotes attributed with Nani today say that he never thought about leaving United.

"I never wanted to go,'' Nani told the Manchester Evening News. "When you are feeling low and things aren't going well, you do feel alone and there have been times like that. But I never thought about quitting and going back to Portugal.

"I was in a bad position sometimes and it wasn't easy to get back up again. Of course, your confidence does suffer on occasions and you get down. But I have shown I don't get depressed too easily.

"I am a strong personality. If you are not a strong character then it will drag you down. I am not like that. I am sure I have the quality to be one of the best in the world. I can achieve that.''
