Fergie Defends Foster

Man United goalkeeper Ben Foster didn't have the best of matches yesterday and Sir Alex Ferguson has defended him. Foster could have done better with both goals but there were other factors which lead to the goals so he isn't fully to blame.

"Knowing Ben and the ability which he has, he should have done better with the second goal," Ferguson was quoted by The Express as saying.

"However, it was his first big challenge."

"He has waited a long time, has had his injuries, and in pre-season I spread the load between the three 'keepers, and maybe we did not have enough minutes for him," he confessed.

"But the important thing is, knowing his ability, it means I do not have any worries about him."

The problems for goalkeepers is that when they make mistakes, it normally leads to goals. When strikers, midfielders and defender make mistakes, there is normally someone there to bale them out.
