Burnley v Manchester United

Good morning everyone, have you all managed to calm down yet?
Last night I was incredibly frustrated, I was annoyed and in a really bad mood. Man United travelled to Turf Moor with most expecting a Man United win and I must say that I could only see a Man United win. Instead we got an awful first half performance, a slightly better second half performance and a 1-0 loss.
Man United’s starting XI was Ben Foster, Wes Brown, John O’Shea, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Ji-Sung Park, Anderson, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.
Robbie Blake’s first half volley was enough to see Burnley win in top-flight football for the first time in 33 years, and they thoroughly deserved it. It wasn’t all plain sailing for Burnley, their keeper Brian Jensen had to make a few wonderful saves to win them the match.
Owen made his first competitive start for Man United in the Premier League in front of England boss Fabio Capello. Owen should have put United ahead only minutes in but he was unable to get on the end of Evra’s cross.
After that Man United chance, Burnley settled down and they looked comfortable on the ball. Burnley’s first chance fell to Steven Fletcher who was unable to hit the target. Martin Paterson was close to going round Foster but the United keeper managed to get there first.
Burnley fans only had to wait 19 minutes to see their team go 1-0 up against the Premier League Champions. Stephen Jordan’s cross wasn’t fully cleared by Evra and Blake was there to volley it into the back of the net.
Owen had another frustrating night for Man United and he had a few great chances. One of them came when he headed wide Brown’s ball in, the ball should have atleast gone on target.
Man United had the perfect opportunity to equalise only minutes before halftime. Evra was brought down in the penalty area by goalscorer Blake. Upstepped Carrick and his penalty was saved by Jensen, no Man United player was unable to put in the rebound. What I couldn’t understand last night was why did Carrick take the penalty?
We had Rooney, Owen, Giggs and possibly even Anderson on the pitch.
So Man United went in 1-0 down at half time and I said then on twitter (if you want to follow me go to www.twitter.com/manunitedblog) that if we want to get anything out of the match then we have to improve. There was no way that we could carry on with the way that we had been playing.
No changes were immediately made after half time. Burnley came out for the second half looking for a second goal. Blake came close to his second when his 20-yard strike went inches wide of the post.
Sir Alex Ferguson brought Antonio Valencia on in the 58th minute for Anderson who had, had a terrible night. Valencia added a bit more pace and width which was what we needed.
Jensen was Burnley’s hero last night, after Valencia came on he made a superb save off Park’s low shot. He also rushed out to block an oncoming Giggs who was one-on-one with the keeper.
United stepped up the pace when time was running out but we were unable to get that equaliser and with only two games of the season played we are already three points behind Chelsea.
You can’t win the Premier League title in August, it is a marathon not a sprint but you can certainly loose it.

Hi Anonymous, thanks for taking the time to comment. I was sure that we would win to. Ferdinand and Vidic are both injured.
You are quite right, we must always believe in Man United and welcome from England. It is great to have fans from around the world.
I didn't get the chance to watch the match live; and I was shocked to hear United losing to Burnley.
Well, we have Wigan coming up and fingers crossed, results will come our way!
Hi shutterspeed, thanks for your comment. It was a shock but we got the reply that we needed against Wigan.
