The Road To The Carling Cup Final

It is the Carling Cup final tomorrow and I can't wait, here is how both teams got to the final.
Both teams joined the competition in the third round.

Ronaldo returned for United from injury, it was as if he hadn't been away, he scored a goal in the 25th minute, 125 days after United won the Champion's League.
Boro scored the second goal, Adam Johnson equalised for Boro in the 56th minute.
Ryan Giggs made it 2-1 in the 79th minute when he chipped the keeper, Nani made it 3-1 in stoppage time.
The game was marred when Possebon was stretchered off after a horrendous challenge on him by Pogatetz.

Newcastle United 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur
There were no goals in the first half but in the second half Roman Pavlyuchenko scored his first goal in English football in the 62nd minute. Only four minutes later (66th minute), Tottenham had a second goal by midfielder Jamie O'Hara.
Manager less Newcastle did pull a goal back but Michael Owen's 90th minute goal was only a consolation goal.
It was an uneventful match, Neither Given nor Gomes really had a save to make in the match, they just had to pick the ball out of the nets.

4th Round
Manchester United 1-0 Queens Park Rangers
It wasn't the best performance from United's youngsters but United did manage to get through. Throughout the match, United had all the possession but QPR kept 10 men behind the ball, United finally got the goal after Danny Welbeck was brought down in the penalty area and in the 76th minute, Tevez stepped up, took the penalty and made it 1-0 Manchester United. The game finished 1-0.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 Liverpool
Tottenham weren't the favourites but the got through after a 38 minute goal from Pavlyuchenko which was followed by a 42nd minute goal from Campbell (who is on loan from Manchester United). Campbell got his hatrick just before half time in the 45th minute to put Spurs 3-0 up going into the second half.
Liverpool improved slightly in the second half and they got an early goal from Plessis in the 49th minute to make it 3-1. It seemed over by this point but Tottenham wanted to make sure and they did when Pavlyuchenko scored his second in the 52nd minute.
Liverpool scored the final goal of the game when Hyypia made it 4-2 in the 63rd minute.

Quarter-Finals
Manchester United 5-3 Blackburn Rovers
Fergie put out the kids again in the Carling Cup and they impressed against a Blackburn side who put out a strong side.
It was a fantastic night for Tevez, who scored a hatrick (thie first of his career), we thought he had scored his first in the 36th minute but it went down as a Aaron Mokoena own goal. All of his Tevez' goals came in the second half.
Nani was also on the scoresheet and like always, it was a stunning goal, Nani only scores great goals.
Man United were 4-1 up with 6 minutes to go but with three late goals, one from McCarthy, one from Derbyshire and one from Tevez in stoppage time gave Man United a 5-3 win.
With 25 minutes to go of the match, the biggest cheer of the game went to Paul Scholes when he came on after over two months out.

Watford 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs had to come from a goal down to win the match, Watford went 1-0 up in the 13th minute when Priskin put the ball into the back of the net for the home team.
Pavlyuchenko continued his run of scoring in every round of the Carling Cup when he made it 1-1 from the penalty spot in the 45th minute.
Darren Bent gave Tottenham the win when he scored their second and the winner in the 76th minute.

Semi-Finals 1st Leg
Derby County 1-0 Manchester United
Manchester United were awful throughout this match, it was one of the worst performances I have seen United play in ages. Saying that, the goal that Cris Commons scored was well worth winning any football match. Manchester United were lucky that the game only finished 1-0, it could have easily been a 3-0 or a 4-0 loss.
Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Burnley
It looked like Tottenham were going to go through to the final comfortably after they came from 1-0 down to win 4-1.
Burnley were 1-0 up in the first half after a Martin Paterson goal. Tottenham struck back in the second half- Michael Dawson scored their first, Jamie O'Hara scored the second, Roman Pavlyuchenko got the third and another Carling Cup goal, the final goal was an own goal by Burnley's Michael Duff.
If you thought this was an exciting match, the second leg was alot better.

Semi-Finals 2nd Leg
Manchester United 4-2 Derby County (4-3 agg)
Manchester United had to overturn a 1-0 loss in the first leg to get into the final, which is exactly what they did. Man United cruised into half time with a 3-0 lead. Nani hit a fantastic goal to give United the lead, the second came from an O'Shea, Tevez got the third.
Derby were handed a penalty when an injured Jonny Evans' gave away a penalty and it was made 3-1.
It looked like the game was put to bed when Ronaldo scored Manchester United's fourth with only two minutes to go. But Derby had other idea's and Barnes scored a wonderful freekick to make it 4-2 (4-3 on aggregate). It was a nervy last few minutes but United went through 4-3 on aggregate.

Burnley 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur (4-6 agg)
Robbie Blake put the Clarets ahead on the night in the 34th minute and Chris McCann made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute. so it was 4-3 on aggregate to Spurs. Jay Rodriguez scored in the 88th minute to make it 4-4 and force extra time.
It looked like Burnley were going to take Tottenham all the way to penalties (Burnley had knocked Chelsea out of the Carling Cup on penalties earlier on in the competition) but two late goals from Pavlyuchenko (118 minutes) and Jermain Defoe (120 minutes) gave Tottenham a 6-4 win and they were into the final of the Carling Cup.
