Vidic And Evra Rewarded For Fantastic Season

Last night the World Player of the Year was announced along with the Team of the Year. It should come as a surprise that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi won the World Player of the Year award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Ricardo Kaka.

Messi said: "I would like to thank all the colleagues who voted for me. It is a great honour to get this award as this comes from colleagues from other teams.
"This means that a magnificent year for Barcelona ends in a magnificent way for me and Barcelona."

Two Man United players were named in the Team of the Year:

Goalkeeper: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid)

Defenders: Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Nemanja Vidic (Man United), John Terry (Chelsea) and Patrice Evra (Man United)

Xavi (Barcelona), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) and Andres Iniesta (Barcelona)

Forwards:

Finally, former Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo won the Fifa Puskas award for the best goal of the 2008/09 season.

The 22-year old has become the first Barcelona player to win the Ballon d’Or in four years. Last season Messi helped Barcelona to a record breaking treble in Spanish football- UEFA Champions League, La Liga title and Copa del Rey.

Man United striker Wayne Rooney has been shortlisted for this year’s Ballon d’Or (in other words the best player in the Europe. New Award For Cristiano Ronaldo

Football - Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Barclays Premier League

Congratulations to winger Cristiano Ronaldo, he has won yet another award. This time he has been voted Sexiest Man Alive in a new magazine poll for Gay Times. It is no secret that Ronaldo takes care of himself - moisturises everyday, plucks his eyebrows and some say that he even shaves his legs.

I am not quite sure that he will be boasting about this award. I am sure he will get some stick for this one.

Vidic And Fergie Receive Awards

Soccer: Training - Manchester United May 20

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Man United defender Nemanja Vidic have both received awards. Fergie has picked up the award for Manager Of The Year, this is the ninth time that he has picked up this award. Vidic has picked up the award for Player Of The Season.

This season Sir Alex Ferguson has helped Manchester United to our 11th Premier League title, the World Club Championship, Carling Cup and hopefully tonight the Champion's League.

Vidic has been a massive part of Manchester United's record breaking defence and he deserves all the accolades that he wins this season, he has been amazing for us this season.

What Happened Last Night?

Last night Manchester United held their annual end of season awards ceremony to celebrate this season and obviously give out awards. There was one noticeable absentee from the ceremony and that was Carlos Tevez, it is looking more and more likely that he is leaving.

Back to the awards, Nemanja Vidic won the two main awards. Vidic was named Player of the Year by United fans and his team-mates.

Vidic collected the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award (voted for by the fans), and the Players' Player award, he was given a standing ovation when he went to pick them up.

"I am honoured," Vidic said. "It is amazing to win these awards, especially when I consider the quality of the players I play alongside every day. I would like to say thank you to the fans and to my team-mates.

"I enjoy being here every day and playing with these players and working with the coaches. I'm very happy here at United [fantastic news]."

he added: "I've not won many awards in my career so this is why my speech is not the best. Maybe if I win another award next year it will be better."

Youngster Federico Macheda won Jimmy Murphy Academy Player of the Year after having a fantastic season for Man United, not just for the reserves but he has also had two unforgettable matches for the senior squad.

Kiko said: "I'm very happy to receive this award. I'd like to thank McGuinness, the coaches and all the players." He explains where his nickname comes from: "When I was younger my little cousin couldn't say my name, so he just called me Kiko".

The nominations for this award were: Matty James, Federico Macheda, and Danny Welbeck

James Chester picked up the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year. The nominations for the award were James Chester, Corry Evans and Tom Cleverley. Chester is Manchester United's reserve team captain, he has also gone out on loan to Peterbrough this [it's really last season now] season.

Chester was asked, how do the two Fergusons compare? "They're both the same, really," he said "But I'd rather work for the one here!"

Cristiano Ronaldo didn't leave empty handed, Ronaldo claimed the Goal of the Season trophy for his 40 yard wondergoal against Porto in the second leg of the Champion's League. The nominations for the award were Dimitar Berbatov vs Tottenham, Ronaldo vs Porto, and Macheda v Aston Villa.

Ronaldo said: "In my opinion, it is a fantastic goal. [I don't think may people could argue with that]".

Rooney Wins Award

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has won an individual award, he has been voted England's Player Of The Year Of 2008.

You could vote for your favourite England player via the Football Association's official website and the English fans voted for Rooney, it is the first time that a forward has won the award.

So, Wayne Rooney came first, Gareth Barry came second and Theo Walcott came third.

"I am absolutely delighted to win this award, especially as it has been voted for by the England fans," Rooney said. "Having said that, it would not have been possible without the help and support of my England team-mates, Fabio Capello and his coaching staff.
"It's an amazing feeling, playing for your country. So to be voted player of the year is a great feeling and I'd like to thank all the fans who voted for me.
"Since the manager came in the routine has changed and the team has started playing a lot better football. The main aim was to get the wins in those qualifying games and we did that, and thankfully I was able to score some goals as well. So overall I think 2008 was a good year for England."
"The results on the road last year have put us in a good position and now we have some massive games coming up at Wembley. If the fans can show the same level of support and commitment they showed last year – and again on Saturday – it will be a big help to the players. To play at Wembley with the fans and country behind us is amazing and I can't stress enough how important their support and encouragement is."

Congratulations to Wayne.

Ronaldo Is All About The Glamour

Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United 2008/09

Guus Hiddink has launched an attack on Man United's Cristiano Ronaldo saying that Gerrard deserved the World Footballer Of The Year's title over Ronaldo.
Hiddink has also said that Ronaldo's prize had more to do with his looks and hairstyle than the goals and talent.

Ronaldo has won many awards this season and last season, he scored in the Champion's League final, he won Man United many matches and he is in most peoples opinions- the best player in the world.

In some peoples eyes he is a good looking footballer and he has got a playboy image but football is a massive part of Ronaldo's life and he loves it, I don't think it is fair at all for Hiddink to say that.

Hiddink said:
'Cristiano Ronaldo is a good-looking footballer, he looks fit and, oh yes, his hair is always in place,'
'But him winning the award is too much about glamour.'
'I very much preferred Gerrard,' said Hiddink. 'He has superb technical and tactical qualities and I admire his spirit and attitude on the pitch.
'It has everything to do with his passion for the game and my passion for football.
'He is a player who fans can identify themselves with and a man who carries the love for his club on his club badge.
'There is not another player in the world who combines all those qualities. He is the type of player who appeals so much more to me than Cristiano Ronaldo.
'Of course, Ronaldo entertains the crowds and has great skills. But it is too much glamour and show. Gerrard, Barcelona's Xavi and Messi are not as much focused on themselves. They focus on the team.'

And The Award Goes To................

....... Cristiano Ronaldo.

Not really much of a suprise but there was talk before the awards ceremony that there is a good chance that Barcelona's Lionel Messi could get it.

Not for the first time Ronaldo was really struggling not to cry when he got up to receive his award.

Ronaldo has been the first Premier League player to pick up the award since the launch of it 18 years ago, this is a total shock considering we had players such as Ryan Giggs, Shearer, Cantona, Henry and many more great ones playing in th Premier League (formally known as Premiership).

This is what he had to say:
“This is a unique moment for me. I’d like to dedicate this to my father, my mother, my brothers and sisters.
“To my mother and my sisters I’d like to say you can now light up the fireworks. I’d also like to thank my team-mates.”
“The past year was something great but winning this award adds a very special something to that.”
“Sir Alex has had an important role to play in my life.
“Last season was a great one for me, my club and the boss was important for me because I learned a lot from him.
“His immense experience is of paramount importance and it’s a privilege to be able to be a part of the history of such a big club as United.
“I think that I can become part of the history of this club but you can’t get anywhere without a great manager.”

He have frustrated Manchester United supporters during the summer, he may be arrogant and have a massive ego but I am glad he got it because he is currently a Manchester United player who you must support and I think he thoroughly deserves it.

Lets just hope that it will push him on for the rest of the season and bring back some of the form he had last season.

Here are the top three players in the world (and they are all from European Clubs):
1. Ronaldo
2. Messi
3. Torres

Should Cristiano Ronaldo Win FIFA World Player Of The Year?

Now I may be a biased Manchester United fan but I think that if Ronaldo doesn't win FIFA World Player Of The Year tonight then it would be a travesty.

I think that this award is probably between three players: Messi, Ronaldo and Torres.

There is no way that Torres had a better season than Ronaldo so he shouldn't get it. I would be wrong if I compared Ronaldo and Messi because I watched every single Manchester United game but I didn't really watch that many Barcelona ma

This award is also covered for this season (it covers the 2008 calendar year not a football season) and it is voted for by International managers so there is a good chance that Messi could win it over Ronaldo because I think that all Man United fans and Ronaldo himself will tell you that he hasn't been at his best so far this season.

Will Ronaldo get it?

I hope so but many people (not just the English) think that FIFA are biased against England, but why should that affect it? It isn't FIFA voting, it is the International managers. If we go down this route if Ronaldo doesn't win it then you will basically be calling FIFA cheats and liars and I don't think that is the case.

Ronaldo had a fantastic season last year and I think he deserves to win every award possible.

Another Award For Ronaldo

Congratulations to Manchester United's winger - Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won yet another award, this time it is the Balloon D'Or (European footballer of the year).

Ronaldo grabbed first place which in my opinion is thoroughly deserved and I would have said that even if he wasn't a Man United player. Second place went to Barcelona's Messi and third place went to Liverpool's Torres.

Many world class players have won this award, such as; Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (the other Ronaldo), Figo, M.Owen, Zidane and many more.

Ronaldo has said:

“It is one of the most beautiful days of my life. To gain this trophy is something I dreamed of as a child.

“Great emotion fills me but I cannot really describe it.

“I want to thank those who voted for me, those who know me and those who live with me.

“I was not worried, because I was aware of what I did in the course of the season.

“But to the people who mentioned my name, I say thank you. Thank you also to my team-mates.

“This trophy is one that I want to win again because it is so good. Therefore, I will wake and I will say to myself ’I want to be even better’.”

How The Hell Did Torres Beat Ronaldo?

It has been announced that Liverpool striker Fernando Torres got Premier League Player Of The Year over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Torres is a good player but there was no way that he had a better season that Ronaldo and I would even be saying that if he had been a total idiot and gone of to Real Madrid during the summer.

Ronaldo is a fantastic player which is exactly why Real Madrid were prepared to spend so much money on him, they wouldnt have paid that amount for Torres because he isnt better than Ronaldo.

The only way that I can think of why he got it is because Liverpool don't have a squad of world class players like United have, only Torres, Gerrard and possibly Carragher could get into the squad not even the first 11.

Lets just hope Ronaldo gets the bigger award- World Player Of The Year and if he does get that then it just shows that he should have got Premier League Player Of The Year.

Manchester United to face Celtic again, Ronny named Europeans Best

Yesterday the Champion's League stage draws were made, Manchester United were drawn an ok group, I wouldn't say it is fantastic but it is not easy.

Here is Group E:

Manchester United
Villareal
Celtic
Aalborg

Celtic will definetly be a hard match, especially away but if we can get a win at home and a draw away then I will be happy. Villareal will also be a hard match, I haven't seen much of them but just like Celtic I will be happy with a home win and away draw.
I have to admit that I no nothing about Aalborg, they played an English club in last seasons UEFA Cup but other than that, they shouldn't be too hard, hopefully.

It wasn't just the group stage draw being done, the European awards were given out, with Chelsea winning three and United winning two but we did win the most important one.

European Club Goalkeeper Of The Year: Petr Cech (Chelsea) - can't moan too much about this one.
European Club Defender Of The Year: John Terry (Chelsea) - I can moan about this one, I think that all of the other players nominated for this one were much better than JT, nevermind, he had to win something this season.
European Club Midfielder Of The Year: Frank Lampard (Chelsea) - I am not going to moan about this one either, he might be a Chelsea player but after taking that penalty just after his mothers death then he deserves it because I don't think I could have done it.
European Club Forward Of The Year: Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - not a surprise at all but I would have loved Rooney to have won it and got some recognition for what he has done.

European Club Player Of The Year: Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - Congratulations to Ronaldo, I was surprised when he got third last year but he thoroughly deserves it and hopefully he will be back soon.

Cole trying to stir it

Joe Cole has been trying to stir things before next wednesdays Champion's League clash. Cole has said that Messi is better than Ronaldo, fair enough that is his opinion but why has he said it now, six days before the final. Now if it was a different player or manager saying this then i would probably listen to what he had to say but i dont really care what Joe Cole has to say, even though i am blogging about it.
Ronaldo is much better than Joe Cole, Messi and Ronaldo are both fantastic players so i think it is just a bit of trouble making and jealousy.
Ronaldo knows he is an amazing player and we all know it. Anyway he is what the Chelsea player said:
"Ronaldo's been fantastic but in the semi-final Messi showed he's the top man," said Cole, who will face Ronaldo in next week's Champions League final.
"He is only 20 as well, imagine how good he will be in the next 10 years."

You make your own mind up, there is a reason why Ronaldo has won so many awards and my personal opinion is the Ronaldo is the best player in the world, i have seen much of Messi because i watch quite a few Barcelona matches so i can say that.

Ronaldo wins yet another award

Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association. Ronaldo has already won PFA Players Player Of The Year, PFA Fans Player Of The Year and he was in the PFA Team Of The Year, he has also won Barclays Premier League Player Of The Month in January and March and that is in this season.

Ronaldo has won the award with Fernando Torres (Liverpool) in second place and David James (Portsmouth) in third place.
This is the second time in a row which Ronaldo has picked up the award, the last player to do that was Thierry Henry in the 2003/2004 season.

Chairman of the FWA, Paul Hetherington, said: "Ronaldo's award is no surprise after his brilliant form this season and incredible goal-scoring (currently 38 goal) and he is, of course, essentially a winger.
"Cristiano was an overwhelming winner and, given his age, he has the potential and ability to dominate this award for years in an unprecedented way."

I dont think that anyone is surprised about him winning this, Ronaldo is also a big favourite to win World Player Of The Year.

Ronaldo named PFA Player Of The Year

Not really a surprise is it?
Cristiano Ronaldo has won PFA Player Of The Year award for the second season in a row. Ronaldo beat Torres, Gerrard, Fabregas, James and Adebayor to the award.
In a pre-recorded acceptance speech,
Ronaldo said: "I feel very happy. When you work all season to do something for the team, and then at the end the PFA give you this award, it is a great moment.
"It is an honour, a pleasure and a great motivation to carry on, to work more and get better.
"This is a good moment for me but it is not just my award, my team-mates have helped me a lot this season. They give me good passes to score goals - and I score.''

He was also up for the PFA Young Player Of The Year but he didnt get that one, Fabregas did.

We also had a few players in the PFA Players Team Of The Year:

Goalkeeper
James (Portsmouth)
Defence
Sagna (Arsenal) Ferdinand (United) Vidic (United) Clichy (Arsenal)
Midfield
Ronaldo (United) Gerrard (Liverpool) Fabregas (Arsenal) Young (A.Villa)
Upfront
Torres (Liverpool) Adebayor (Arsenal)

I dont quite agree with that team of the year but i do agree with some of it. I wouldnt have Clichy there i would probably have Lescott. I also wouldnt have Sagna there. What is your team of the year?

PFA Player's Young Player Of The Year Award

The nomination's for the PFA Player's Young Player Of The Year Award are:

  • Ronaldo (Manchester United)
  • Fabregas (Arsenal)
  • Torres (Liverpool)
  • Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
  • A.Young (Aston Villa)
  • Richards (Manchester City)

Last season Cristiano Ronaldo won this award, who do you think will win it this season?
