Man United After Hertha Berlin Star?

Sports News - December 01, 2008

With the transfer window opening at midnight tonight, Man United are being linked to more and more players. This time it is turn of Serbian defensive midfielder Gojko Kacar.

The 22-year-old believes that a move to Old Trafford would secure his place in Serbia’s 2010 World Cup Squad. He is currently playing for Hertha Berlin in Germany and it is believed that he could make the move in January.

It is believed that Hertha Berlin are wanting of €10 million but he could move for of €7 million. It isn’t just Man United interested in the midfielder, AC Milan and Juventus are also thought to be interested.

How true is it? I’m not sure but if Man United are going to go for anyone, I believe it will be a younger, less known player not an already world class player so it is possible.

Mixed Injury News For Man United

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed some mixed injury news. The bad news is that defender John O’Shea could be out for at least another two months. The good news is that Man United defenders Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand are nearing a return to first team football.

FIFA World Cup 2010 Qualifying Play Off soccer match, Ireland vs France - First Round

It was initially believed that O’Shea was suffering from a dead leg, which he picked up on International duty against France, but there is no sign of a return for the player.

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "There is no sign at all of recovery for John”
"It is his first injury at the club and he is a big loss because he is such a versatile player.
"We just want to get him back but it could be a couple of months yet."

Sir Alex Ferguson went on to talk about Evans and Ferdinand:

“Rio Ferdinand has done well over the last few days. He is on a running programme, and Jonny Evans is also doing it with him."

“Jonny is doing a bit more, of course, because he has not been out for so long, but there’s every chance the two of them will be back soon, which is really good news.
“We will just see how they progress now. When they come through the physical side of the work, they can come on to the football side of it."

“Jonny has been involved in the football side for a few days, but Rio hasn’t yet.
“The thing is, though, that there is no recurrence of the back problem with the running that he is doing.

“That is the moment you wait for - when you come through the test of running and turning.
“He is doing his running in the gymnasium, which is good, so at the moment it is looking very healthy.

“There is no date or fixture in mind, but hopefully it isn’t too far away. The signs are looking good.”

Premier League Review: Man United 5-0 Wigan

MANCHESTER UNITED V VALENCIA CF
On the night that Man United celebrated 100 Years at Old Trafford, Man United had a very, very easy game against Wigan Athletic. The Man United players wore black armbands in memory of Busby babe Albert Scanlon who died at the age of 74.

Man United starting XI- Tomasz Kuszczak, Rafael da Silva, Wes Brown, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Ji-Sung Park, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

The first shot of the game fell to Valencia but his shot was slightly scuffed and went straight at goalkeeper Chris Kirkland. Around four minutes later Rooney had a shot at goal but it went over the bar.

For the first 12 minutes it was all Man United, it was a scrappy start and the game was being played at a very slow tempo.

Valencia started for Man United for the first time against his old club

The Stretford End was shouting for a penalty when Titus Bramble challenged Berbatov but it was a high quality tackle by the defender. Seconds later there was a decent strike by Rooney but Kirkland pushed it behind for a corner. Minutes later Rooney hits the foot of the post, it rebounds back and the goalkeeper grabs the ball, it looked like it was set to go into the back of the net.

Not long later Berbatov is put through on goal, the offside flag stays down, Berbatov chipped the keeper but his shot is put wide. At that point United had about five chances in three minutes.

Man United finally scored in the 27th minute when Valencia found Rafael who put the ball in and Rooney found the back of the net.

A fantastic move by Man United minutes later resulted in a Man United goal. Winger Valencia found Carrick who slotted the ball past Wigan keeper Kirkland.

After United’s second Hendry Thomas had a strike from around 40-yards out but it was off target, at least it was a shot.

Just before half time Rafael had his first goal for Man United. Rafael was allowed a lot of room, he took a few touches and finished the ball into the bottom corner, his celebration was to run to his brother Fabio on the bench.

Seconds later in first half injury time Gomes had a shot which was not far wide.

Man United played incredibly well during the first half, which we haven’t seen for a while and it was great to see. It did take Man United around 10 minutes to properly get going but when they did, it was great to watch.

At moments during the first half Valencia had tons of space down United’s wing when he had the ball. Man United didn’t have to do that much but we still went into the break 3-0 up.

Straight into the second half and the substitute goalkeeper Mike Pollitt ‘s first touch was a save from Rooney.

With only minutes gone on the clock in the second half, Man United were 4-0 up. Thomas tried to intercept Valencia’s ball in to Berbatov but he took a touch and slotted it past the substitute goalkeeper.

Not long after the fourth goal, United could have had five, Park found Berbatov who found Rooney but Wayne Rooney hit the bar. It was all incredibly easy for the whole of the team.

Wigan did have a good move, probably their best of the game but Charles N’Zobia’s shot was just wide of the far post. Second later, Man United went to sleep again and Hugo Rodallega had a shot but Kuszczak comfortably saved.

Sir Alex Ferguson made a triple substitution with Fabio da Silva, Danny Welbeck and Anderson coming on, Vidic, Evra and Berbatov all came off.

The game wasn’t going to finish 4-0, with 15 minutes left, Man United scored their fifth. Rooney slid the ball in to Valencia and he lifted the ball past Pollitt. The former Wigan player didn’t celebrate against his former club. Wigan did bring a good save out of Kuszczak during the second half when he had to save a point blank shot from Rodallega.

Welbeck could have made it 6-0, when he failed to score from a cross in from Rafael. 3 minutes were added onto the end but it was more a matter of running down the clock.

The game finished 5-0 to Man United, an incredibly easy game but it was great to see Man United put a good performance in. There was nothing good about Wigan, we were always going to win but we did pass the ball around well. The man of the match had to be Rooney, he was incredible all night.

Man United won the final match of the decade and to be totally honest, it was a walkover.

No Operation Needed For Man United Striker

Soccer: Training - Manchester United May 20Reports have surfaced recently claiming that Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov may need an operation on a knee injury. Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished these reports and said that he will not need an operation.

Sir Alex Ferguson also believes that Berbatov will improve and be an important player for Man United as the season progresses.

"Dimitar has had a bit of a knee niggle but it is a lot better now," Sir Alex said
"We have been treating him quite carefully because we know that we need him in the important second part of the season.
"He came through a full game against Hull and felt fine. He doesn't need an operation and hopefully that is it gone now."

Premier League Preview: Man United vs Wigan

Premier League: United 1 Point From Title

Tonight Man United play their final match in the 2009 year, Wigan Athletic travel to Old Trafford.

Man United finally had four defenders starting in the match against Hull- Wes Brown and Nemanja Vidic recovered from injury along with Rafael da Silva. There are more players returning today- Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Anderson are all available to play.

Some sad news and Man United goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar has taken compassionate leave after his wife suffered a brain haemorrhage. Van Der Sar will stay out in Holland with his wife, hopefully she will make a full recovery.

Wigan only have one injury problem, Mohamed Diame is out with a knee injury and that is it, all the others are fit.

Wigan haven’t been on their best run of form, they are without a run of wins in four matches. You can also say that Man United haven’t been at their best, a 3-1 win over Hull came after a 3-0 defeat to Fulham.

A win over Wigan tonight at Old Trafford will take United back upto two points behind leaders Chelsea, who beat Fulham on Monday.

Predicted Man United starting XI- Tomasz Kuszczak, Gary Neville, Wes Brown, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes, Ji-Sung Park, Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney.

Predicted scoreline- Man United 3-1 Wigan

Nani On His Way Out?

Manchester United stars arrive at Old Trafford in Manchester, UK, ahead of their match against Sunderland

Reports today are suggesting that Man United winger Luis Nani is set to leave Man United in January with a likely destination being Benfica.

The Guardian believes that Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t believe that Nani has a future at the club. It is thought that Nani himself has asked his agent to look for clubs that would take him in Italy and Spain.

Reports last week believed that Man United offered Nani plus cash for Benfica wonderkid Angel di Maria. Benfica don’t want to lose one of their best players halfway through the season and they want atleast £30million for the player.

If Nani does leave then I don’t think it will be a surprise to anyone. He hasn’t featured a lot and recently he hasn’t even been included on the bench most of the time. Nani does have quality but his decision-making lets him down and that doesn’t show any signs of changing.

It looks like Nani’s career at Manchester United is coming to an end.

Premier League Review: Hull 1-3 Man United

Earlier on this afternoon Man United played Hull City at the KC Stadium. For the first time in weeks Man United had an entire back four made up of defenders. Man United made many mistakes throughout the game but after a 3-1 win, we are now two points behind leaders Chelsea.

Man United starting XI- Tomasz Kuszczak, Rafael da Silva, Nemanja Vidic, Wes Brown, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

Rooney opened up the scoring during first half stoppage time but after a huge mistake by the goalscorer Hull were handed (literally) a lifeline. Rooney made up for the mistake with a cross, which was put into the back of his own net by Andy Dawson. United killed the game off with a third and final goal scored by Berbatov thanks to Rooney, who was involved in all of the goals.

After Chelsea drew 1-1 with Birmingham yesterday we had a fantastic chance to close the gap to two points. This showed as United got off to a great start with some one-touch football.

Hull stood firm to United’s early pressure and they then threw some of their own at United. Craig Fagan slid the ball through for Richard Garcia, who went down too easily in the penalty area, the correct decision was made and Hull weren’t awarded a penalty.

That was quickly followed by a powerful strike by Seyi Olofinjana brining out a fine save by Kuszczak. Not long later Olofinjana put Steven Hunt through on goal, he dragged his shot wide.

Man United slowly grew in confidence throughout the first half, at one point it looked like Giggs had scored but unfortunately the ball hit the side netting. Rooney and Rafael brought saves out of the goalkeeper but the deadlock wasn’t broken until first half stoppage time.

Fletcher crossed the ball into the penalty area from down the right, Giggs flicked the ball to Rooney, who stuck the ball into the back of the net.

Second half and we expected Man United to come out all guns blazing and try to snatch another vital second goal. With 59 minutes on the clock, Hull were handed a way back into the game. Rooney’s poor backpass to Kuszczak was nicked by Fagan, Rafael brought down Jozy Altdore and Hull had a penalty. Fagan stepped up to take the penalty and calmly slotted it past Kuszczak.

That goal understandably gave Hull confidence and they poured forward looking for another goal. From a Hull corner, Giggs broke away for United, slotted the ball through to Rooney. Rooney’s ball into towards substitute Ji-Sung Park was put into the back of his own net by Andy Dawson who was sliding in.

Man United sealed the win 82 minutes in when Rooney nutmegged Anthony Gardner and Berbatov had a simple tap in.

3 points for United, we didn’t play well again but yet again we got all three points. It was great to see four fit defenders and at some points it showed. Hopefully we can start improving against Wigan.

3 Months Out For Dimitar Berbatov

CHELSEA V MANCHESER UNITED
Reports today are suggesting that Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov may be out for three months after needing surgery on his knee. Berbatov is struggling with a ligament problem, which will need to be sorted by surgery.

The slightly better news is that he does not need the surgery straight away. These reports have not been confirmed by Man United or Sir Alex Ferguson but over recent games it does look like all is not right.

If Berbatov does go under the knife sooner rather than later that could be great new for Michael Owen who is hoping to go to the World Cup with England.

Man United Defenders To Return

Sports News - January 11, 2009

There may be some bad news on the fitness of Rio Ferdinand but the good news is that Jonny Evans, Wes Brown and Nemanja Vidic should return to the squad soon.

Speaking ahead of the Hull Match at the KC Stadium tomorrow Sir Alex Ferguson said:

"Johnny Evans started training yesterday. He didn’t do an awful lot as he’s still feeling pain and we’re trying to get him through that”

“I think by the Leeds United game [on January 3] we could have three centre-backs fit."

Man United have been struggling defensively for weeks now, at one point we only had one recognised defender.

Sir Alex Ferguson Makes Shock Admission

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made a shock admission stating that Rio Ferdinand may not play again this season, or in the World Cup. Nobody has stated that Ferdinand may not play again but there are a few reports that this may be his last chance and if what they are trying now and it doesn’t work, he may not play again.

MANCHESTER UNITED V VALENCIA CF

The defender has not played for Man United since the 2-0 loss at Anfield around two months ago. The reports are suggesting that another injection is his last hope of playing this season and it may salvage his career.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "He gets his core work done in the gymnasium, we gave him an injection just over two weeks ago so we had to let that settle for a week."
"He did nothing for a week and then got back into the gym work and we're hoping that that pain goes away."

"It's difficult to put a time line on it [Ferdinand’s return]. Anyone who's got a back injury or a sore back knows what I'm talking about. It is a difficult thing. He's not showing that it's troubling him mentally."

"He's quite a composed lad, Rio, and quite a laid-back lad. But inwardly he'll be feeling [worry] - there's no doubt about that - because he's a footballer and footballers like to play. He'll be thinking about all sorts; the run-in to the league and important games coming up because he's missing out on that.”

Premier League Preview: Hull vs Man United

Man United have Boxing Day off as they play Hull City at the KC Stadium on the 27th December. There could be a few defensive players returning for Man United, most notably Nemanja Vidic.

Football - Hull City v Manchester United Barclays Premier League

Hull may be without midfielder Nick Barmby as he picked up a slight calf strain against Arsenal. Jimmy Bullard and Ian Ashbee are out injured, other than that all of Hull’s players are fit to play.

Man United may have Vidic, Fabio da Silva, Rafael da Silva and Ryan Giggs fit for the game. Wes Brown may be fit and is more likely to start on the bench.

Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand, Edwin Van Der Sar, Owen Hargreaves, Luis Nani, Gary Neville, John O’Shea and Federico Macheda are all still out injured.

There is a very good chance that Chelsea will get all three points on boxing day when they play away to Birmingham. Chelsea are also on a bad run of form but they do seem to be getting the luck.

The last match Man United played is a forgettable one for United fans. A terrible, embarrassing loss to Fulham will hopefully be corrected with a win.

Expected Man United starting XI- Tomasz Kuszczak, Rafael da Silva, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Fabio da Silva, Antonio Valencia, Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

Predicted scoreline- Hull 1-3 Man United

Finally, have a very happy Christmas from everyone at ManUnitedDevils

Benfica Reject Man United's Bid

Reports in Portugal are suggesting that Benfica have rejected an offer from Man United to sign Angel di Maria. It is believed by Portuguese radio station TSF that Man United offered Benfica €10 million plus Luis Nani for the 21-year old.

FIFA U-20 World Cup Semi-Finals

Portuguese reports suggest that Benfica don’t want to lose one of their star players halfway through the season but they may accept an offer during the season.

Di Maria has been linked with a move to Man United or Manchester City. Nani hasn’t featured that much this season and hasn’t impressed since joining Man United in the summer of 2007. I don’t think it will be a surprise to anyone if Nani does leave in the January transfer window.

Pep Guardiola The Next Man United Manager?

A Barcelona based newspaper has claimed that Man United have targeted Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola to replace Sir Alex Ferguson. The newspaper believes that Man United have offered Guardiola a lucrative contract and he would be able to have as much control of the club as Sir Alex has.

Chelsea FC vs Barcelona FC
The reports believe that Guardiola could be secured as early as April 2010, which could mean that Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola could work together for a year or two.

Guardiola’s contract with Barca expires at the end of this season and this newspaper believes that after that, he will join Manchester United.

I don’t know how credible this newspaper is but it is believable that Man United may bring in the manager that will succeeds Sir Alex before he retires.

Diouf Granted Permit

Man United have confirmed that Mame Biram Diouf will be able to join Man United in January. The striker signed with United during the summer from Molde and has since been playing on loan at Molde.

Diouf has impressed during training and has now been granted a working permit so he is able to play for Man United.

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said earlier this month: "If you’re talking about value then you can look at our young boy Diouf.
"He’s been training with us and is looking very exciting. That’s the kind of situation we’re good at – finding young players who can develop at the club and at 22 years of age he’s looking very good.”

R.I.P Albert Scanlon

Former Man United player Albert Scanlon has died at the age of 74. Scanlon came through United’s youth system and played under Sir Matt Busby. Scanlon was one of the legendary players who survived the tragic Munich disaster on the 6th February 1958.

At the age of 22 Scanlon survived the crash but he was left with a fractured skull, a broken leg and kidney problems. He made a full recovery and was playing before the 1958-59 season finished.

Scanlon left Man United for Newcastle United in 1960. He went on to play for Lincoln City, Mansfield Town and Newport County. In 1966 Scanlon retired as a player.
On the 13th May 2007, Scanlon presented the Premier League trophy to Man United along with former team-mate Bill Foulkes.

The problems came when he was admitted to hospital with kidney problems and pneumonia in October 2009. Scanlon was in intensive care and on the 22nd December 2009 he passed away.

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said: "I have known Albert since I came to Manchester United and he was always a pleasant and delightful man. He was always cheery and never lost his sense of humour despite the experience he had, and to come through that shows his strength of character.
"He will be a great loss, as he was a popular man, and our condolences go to his family."

Sir Bobby Charlton also survived the crash and he has said: “It was with enormous sadness that I received the news of Albert's passing.
"He was a part of Manchester United folklore and was always a popular figure with the fans, especially because he was a Manchester lad.

"An exciting orthodox winger, he had pace, good ball control and could be relied upon to provide a constant supply of crosses to his fellow forwards. Albert’s place in Manchester United history is assured – he will never be forgotten.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time.”

This is tragic news, especially at this time of year when everyone is celebrating. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

David Villa Gives Man United The Green Light

Valencia striker David Villa has given the green light to a move to the Premier League. Man United have been linked with a move for the player and it is looking ever more possible.

David Villa

Valencia are rumoured to be £600 million in debt (which is still less than Man United) so they may have to sell some of their prize assets. The 28-year-old has been linked with many top clubs, including Man United and Chelsea, he is now prepared to move and possibly to England.

Villa told The Times: "Quite simply, I rejected the possibility of moving abroad [in the summer] because there were issues that would not allow me to leave my country”
"My wife was pregnant and it didn't seem right to leave.

"I like the Premier League a lot. It's the league I follow the most along with La Liga and I've got a lot of friends playing there. There are a lot of globally important teams there that play very good football."

"Maybe quite a few years ago, Spanish players were reluctant to leave La Liga for another league, but that's all changed now. There are very important players, a showcase of Spanish footballers playing for Premier League clubs, and there are players in other leagues, lesser leagues, as well. I think that the Spanish footballer has changed in this aspect in the last few years."

"I have a duty to Valencia. It's my club - the one that pays my wages and with whom I have a contract.

"This summer, they'll have a look at things, analyse them and in time we'll see what happens.

"All I can do now is stay relaxed, try and score as many goals as possible and have as good a season as possible, as much as with my club as with the national team."

He added: "Adapting to a new language, to the football, it's all part of being a footballer. Having said that, I'm comfortable here, calm, happy. I show that better out on the pitch than in front of a microphone.

"We're still a long way off from the months of June and July, and when they come around we'll analyse the situation then."

Vidic And Evra Rewarded For Fantastic Season

Last night the World Player of the Year was announced along with the Team of the Year. It should come as a surprise that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi won the World Player of the Year award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Ricardo Kaka.

Messi said: "I would like to thank all the colleagues who voted for me. It is a great honour to get this award as this comes from colleagues from other teams.
"This means that a magnificent year for Barcelona ends in a magnificent way for me and Barcelona."

Two Man United players were named in the Team of the Year:

Goalkeeper: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid)

Defenders: Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Nemanja Vidic (Man United), John Terry (Chelsea) and Patrice Evra (Man United)

Midfielders:
Xavi (Barcelona), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) and Andres Iniesta (Barcelona)

Forwards:
Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona) and Fernando Torres (Liverpool)

Finally, former Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo won the Fifa Puskas award for the best goal of the 2008/09 season.

Man United Christmas Party 2009

This year the Man United Christmas party was pretty quiet compared to recent seasons. After the 3-0 loss to Fulham Man United stars decided to celebrate Christmas at Rio Ferdinand’s restaurant Rosso.

The Rio Ferdinand Live The Dream Foundation Launch Party - Arrivals

Gary Neville, Darren Fletcher, Federico Macheda, Jonny Evans, Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand were some of the star Man United players spotted at the party.

The only controversy that came from the players themselves came courtesy of 18-year old Macheda, who was spotted smoking. Guests made the most of the free booze, one was taken off in an ambulance and others were slumped in doorways.

One guest said: “Despite the disappointment of losing a game at the weekend, the boys had a great time. At one point a bunch of the players even got on chairs to sing their favourite terrace songs.”

Man United Defender Wanted By Real Madrid?

Reports this morning are suggesting that Real Madrid are after another Man United player. Over the past few seasons there was a massive battle between Man United and Real Madrid over Cristiano Ronaldo. Finally during the summer of 2009, Real Madrid got their wish and signed Ronaldo for a record breaking £80 million.

Football - Manchester United v Stoke City Barclays Premier League

Now it looks like there will be another head-to-head as Real Madrid go after one of United’s star youngsters Jonny Evans. The defender is currently out with an injury and isn’t expected to return until January, which should bother Madrid since the transfer window opens in January.

Madrid have been looking worldwide for young talented defenders to help improve their squad, Ronaldo has recommended the 21-year old to them. Evans has two years left on his contract with Man United and I think that it is incredibly unlikely that Evans will leave Old Trafford for Madrid.

Rio Ferdinand has been struggling with injuries, which means that Evans is likely to play a lot of the time, why would he want to leave? I don’t believe that Evans is one of those players who only play because of the money so that wouldn’t be a reason. Man United are just as big, if not bigger than Real Madrid and I can’t see the move happening.

Premier League Review: Fulham 3-0 Man United

PETERBOROUGH V FULHAM

Yesterday started off well with a 2-0 Liverpool loss at the hands of bottom of the table Portsmouth. It didn’t carry on that way, a depleted Man United lost 3-0 to Fulham down at Craven Cottage.

Man United did have the chance to go level on points with Chelsea, who play West Ham today, but with a performance like we got, that was never going to happen.

Man United starting XI- Tomasz Kuszczak, Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Ritchie De Laet, Antonio Valencia, Darron Gibson, Paul Scholes, Anderson, Patrice Evra, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.

Ever since having a makeshift defence, Fulham were the first team to put pressure and terrorise United’s defence. Kuszczak made a stunning save from Zoltan Gera’s powerful strike 17 minutes in. Five minutes later Fulham were ahead and Kuszczak should have really done better than he did and so should had Scholes. Danny Murphy took the ball easily off Scholes, strode forward a few yards and his low shot went straight past Kuszczak and into the bottom corner.

Second half and we were only 1-0 down, I believed that there was no way we could have played as poorly as we did in the first half. 20 seconds into the second half and we were 2-0 down. The ball was played into the penalty area, Clint Dempsey headed it to Bobby Zamora and he stuck it into the back of the net.

Man United did have one or two chances but to be honest, most of them never really looked like they were going to go past the keeper. Owen didn’t really do that much, one of his best shots was probably closer to the corner flag than the goal.

Fulham played with a lot of confidence and why would you when you were 2-0 up against the Champions? Gera and Zamora looked like they were going to shoot at every opportunity.

Fulham were awarded a fairly tame freekick. The ball was played into the penalty area to Zamora, he chested it down and then flicked it to Damian Duff, who stuck it past Kuszczak for Fulham’s third.

Fulham thoroughly deserved the win but Man United were really poor. I think that whilst we were without all these defenders there was always going to be a result like this. Fletcher and Carrick had done really well in defence but they aren’t defenders.

Man United’s defensive injuries showed yesterday, all I can really say is that the sooner our defenders are fit, the better. It is unlikely that the Hammers are going to take anything off Chelsea, which will take them six points clear but there is the African Cup Of Nations. Chelsea will lose some key players, especially Didier Drogba. There will be more points dropped by all teams, including United and Chelsea throughout the season, it isn’t over.

Premier League Preview: Fulham vs Man United

Tomorrow Man United have a very difficult match against Fulham down at Craven Cottage. Last season Fulham did the double over Man United in the Premier League. Man United finished with nine men down at Craven Cottage last season and lost 2-0.

Premier League: United Lose At Fulham

Fulham are without Andy Johnson who is out with a groin injury. The Cottagers are also without Diomansy Kamara, Seol Ki-Hyeon and Simon Davies.

Man United have a fairly long injury list. Ryan Giggs and Nemanja Vidic are both injury doubts. United are definitely without Edwin Van Der Sar, Gary Neville, Jon O’Shea, Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown, Rafael da Silva, Federico Macheda, Owen Hargreaves and Luis Nani.

Rafael da Silva has recovered from an ankle injury, which means that he is likely to replace Ritchie De Laet at right-back. I don’t have a clue how the back four are going to line-up but I am really hoping Vidic recovers from injury.

Man United have had an odd week, we lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Then on Tuesday we won 3-0 at Old Trafford against Wolves. It wouldn’t surprise me if we had a topsy tervy match against Fulham tomorrow but I believe that we will sneak a win and leave with all three points.

Predicted Man United starting XI- Tomasz Kuszczak, Rafael da Silva, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Anderson, Paul Scholes, Ji-Sung Park, Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney.

Predicted scoreline- Fulham 1-2 Man United

Man United Vs Wolves Fixed?

I have been made aware of a few rival fans claiming that the match between Man United and Wolves was fixed. This was posted on a lesser-known football forum and I am not going to post the URL because all it will do is give them publicity. I have also had one or two Arsenal fans say to me that the game was fixed, that is just a load of crap, the game between Man United and Wolves was NOT fixed.

DONCASTER V WOLVES

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy made 10 changes to the team who beat Tottenham against Man United. It states somewhere in the Premier League rules that teams must field their strongest teams. For starters, that rule is a load of rubbish, clubs should be able to field whatever team they want in Premier League games.

What gives organisations the right to say that this player is better than that player so he should start? Man United and Sir Alex Ferguson don’t always field the strongest team and nor do other clubs.

Obviously McCarthy didn’t believe that his side was able to get anything out of the game against Man United so he didn’t risk some of his players. Wolves have an important game against Burnley this weekend, why risk players getting injured if you don’t believe you will get anything out of the game?

It isn’t as if the players he fielded were unknowns anyway, most of them are International players and had been playing for Wolves this season. This game would have also given the players vital experience.

Recently in the Champions League, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger fielded a weakened team. The game didn’t mean anything, the Arsenal youngsters got vital experience and nobody moaned. McCarthy believed he wouldn’t get anything out of the game so he fielded a different team, so what?

If the Wolves team that McCarthy fielded did come to Old Trafford and take something off United, the people moaning now wouldn’t be moaning. There wouldn’t be ‘fans’ saying that the game was fixed, they would be congratulating Mick McCarthy. Wolves lost 3-0 to United so people start complaining.

If you are going to say that a match has been fixed, you need proof. Where is the proof? When you ask the ‘fans’ that you normally get answers such as Sir Alex Ferguson paying off the referee- whatever!

Man United are a fantastic team, world class and we are going to beat teams most of the time. Rival fans may be sick of United winning trophies but that isn’t our fault. If you are going to claim that matches are fixed, make sure you have proof otherwise you just sound like a jealous idiot.

David Beckham To Finally Return To Old Trafford

It is over six years since David Beckham left Man United, he will now return for the first time to play at Old Trafford with AC Milan in the Champions League. Earlier on in the week, Beckham had said that he would love to play Man United in the next stage and his dream has come true.

Italian soccer Serie A, Milan vs Atalanta

Beckham said: "I would really like to face my former team in the next round. Since I left (United) in 2003, I have not returned to play at Old Trafford.
"Seven years have gone by and I would like for that to happen. Me against Manchester, it would be beautiful, wouldn't it?"

Beckham never really got the chance to say goodbye to the Man United fans and I am sure that when he does return, he will get a fantastic reception.

Man United will travel over to Italy in February and AC will travel over to England in March.
The teams have played each other eight times in European competitions, AC Milan have gone through every single time. The most recent being in the 2006/07 season when AC Milan beat United 5-3 on aggregate, mainly thanks to Ricardo Kaka.

Milan may have lost Kaka to Real Madrid in the summer but Man United also lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Real during the summer. They are still a strong team just like we are and it will make for two fantastic matches.

I am looking forward to both games, we could have had an easier draw like Barcelona have but this is what the Champions League is all about- top teams playing each other.
Overall, I believe we are stronger and should go through but you never know.

Here is the full Champions League final 16 draw:

Stuttgart v Barcelona
Olympiakos v Bordeaux
Internazionale v Chelsea
Bayern Munich v Fiorentina
CSKA Moscow v Sevilla
Olympique Lyonnais v Real Madrid
FC Porto v Arsenal
AC Milan v Man United

Ryan Giggs Agrees New Contract

Man United have confirmed that Ryan Giggs has agreed a new contract, which will see him at Old Trafford until at least June 2011.

BBC Sports Personality Of The Year

The 36-year old has been fantastic for Man United so far this season and this contract will see him extend his playing career beyond the 20th anniversary of his Man United debut.

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Ryan deserves a new contract and I am sure that he will play for another two years"
"His form is fantastic at the moment and he is playing some of his best football.”

Ryan Giggs has said: “I am delighted that I have agreed one more year"
"I am enjoying my football more than ever and I am looking forward to hopefully winning more trophies with Manchester United."

This is great news for both Man United and Ryan Giggs. Many wrote him off before the season started but he has just won the BBC’s Personality Of The Year and he will prove them all wrong.

Champions League Draw LIVE

You will have to refresh your browser, apologies for that

11:36- Thats it for the live coverage, I will bring you reaction to the AC Milan/Man United tie and the contract extension Ryan Giggs has signed.Plus a post on a few idiots who are saying that the Man United/Wolves game was fixed.

11:35- If we do beat AC Milan and go through, there is a chance that we could play Real Madrid. David Beckham will get a far better reception than Cristiano Ronaldo.

11:31- AC Milan have a good record against us, it's time to change that. AC Milan have played United four times in a European competition and have gone through all four times.

11:30- BREAKING NEWS- Ryan Giggs has signed a one year extension on his contract. More to come on that.

11:28- Arsenal have a fairly kind draw but Man United and Chelsea have been drawn the difficult ones. I think we have a good chance against the Italian side, it would have been worse if they still had Kaka but we shouldn't fear anyone.

11:25- First leg ties to be played on the 16/17 and 23rd/24th March- spread over two weeks this season. Second legs to be played 9/10 and 16/17 March.

11:23-  That means that David Beckham will return to Old Trafford with AC Milan and Jose Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge with Inter Milan

11:23 -  AC Milan vs Man United

11:22- Porto vs Arsenal

 11:21- Lyon vs Real Madrid

 11:20- CSKA Moscow vs Sevilla

11:19- Bayern Munich vs Fiorentina

11:18- Inter Milan vs Chelsea

11:17- Olympiakos vs Bordeaux

11:16- Stuttgart vs Barcelona

11:16- The draw is finally underway

11:13-  They are now doing the 'technical explanations'. It really isn't that hard to understand

11:07- We should only be minutes away now

11:03- Preliminaries are underway and this is going to be drawn out as usual, why can't they just go straight to the draw?

11:00- Group winners- Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Fiorentina and Bordeaux. Man United can't face any of those or CSKA Moscow who were in their group.

10:59  - Man United can't be drawn against the other group winners, teams from the same country are kept apart and the teams who met in the group stage are also kept apart.

10:54  - I think it is fair to say that Man United wouldn't want to be drawn against AC Milan, Inter Milan and possibly Bayern Munich. Since we did finish top of the group United will play the home leg second.

10:50 -The draw for the final 16 of the Champions League is about to start shortly. In the rehersals Man United were drawn against AC Milan. Chelsea had Olypiakos and Arsenal had Inter Milan.

Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Porto, Lyon, Inter Milan, Stuttgart and Olympiakos.

Kuszczak On Being Number One And Injury Crisis

MANCHESTER UNITED V VALENCIA CF

Since Edwin Van Der Sar has been out injured goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has emerged as Man United’s number two, ahead of Ben Foster. Kuszczak has said that he wants to keep his place even when Van Der Sar is back fit, which isn’t really a surprise, why would he want to go back to the bench?

"I am still making some small mistakes, which I am not happy with," Kuszczak told The Manchester Evening News.

"I try to be honest about my performances. Okay, I didn't concede any goals against Wolves but I made some mistakes which could have cost us a goal. Thankfully they didn't.

"I am enjoying playing regularly. Then you can do something with your performance.

"Playing for Manchester United is fantastic. Even when I have had the hard times, when I did not play, that was always my ambition.

"I never started thinking the chance wouldn't come for me. Now it is my time to play regularly and I want to do it for a long time.

"I have to play well and keep clean sheets. I have to make as few mistakes as I can."

Kuszczak has then gone on to make a few comments about Man United’s defensive crisis.

"It is difficult to keep clean sheets because the level of the Premier League is so high and we have to keep changing the defence around," he added.

"It can be confusing but we don't have enough time to gel - although they played well on Tuesday against Wolves."

Man United Lose Vidic To Injury

uring yesterday’s game against Wolves, Man United defender Nemanja Vidic had to be substituted due to a calf strain. Wes Brown also wasn’t in the team after he suffered another injury. That now means that there are eight defenders out injured again.

Manchester United stars arrive at Old Trafford in Manchester, UK, ahead of their match against Sunderland

Ritchie De Laet is expected to start the game this weekend against Fulham alongside midfielder Michael Carrick in the heart of Man United’s defence. Midfielder Darren Fletcher is expected to start at right-back and Patrice Evra should be in his normal left-back position. I don’t know what we would have done if we didn’t have Carrick or Fletcher, it would have been a bigger disaster than it is already.

Man United are now sitting at the top of the injury table with 10 players out injured.

United are without- Rafael da Silva (defender), Wes Brown (defender), Gary Neville (defender), Edwin Van Der Sar (goalkeeper), Fabio da Silva (defender), John O’Shea (defender), Jonny Evans (defender), Rio Ferdinand (defender), Nemanja Vidic (defender) and Owen Hargreaves (midfielder). So out of the 10 injuries we have, eight of them are defenders.

This is now getting beyond ridiculous.

Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been quoted as saying: "Ritchie showed some promise and he will probably be there on Saturday”

"We just have to get on with it."

Premier League Review: Man United 3-0 Wolves

Man United have moved level on points with Chelsea after beating Wolves 3-0 at Old Trafford. Wolves manager Mick McCarthy made 10 changes from the team who beat Tottenham 1-0 at the weekend. Man United were without Wes Brown who has picked up another injury that meant that Michael Carrick was back in defence.

MANCHESTER UNITED V VALENCIA CF
Sir Alex Ferguson’s 900th League game in charge of Man United was fairly uneventful. Wolves rarely threatened on goal, I can only remember one great opportunity for them. Man United themselves were hardly at their best but a win is a win and we bagged all three points.

Man United starting XI- Tomasz Kuszczak, Ritchie De Laet, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Paul Scholes, Darron Gibson, Gabriel Obertan, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov.

Wolves managed to shut United out for half an hour. It was starting to look like it could be a frustrating night. Rooney was firing straight at goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, he also had a deflected shot fall just wide of the post.

On the half hour mark, Ronald Zubar handled the ball from Gibson’s corner and a penalty was awarded to Man United. Rooney stepped up and coolly hit it past Hahnemann.

United did have another few chances before halftime, one of which saw Vidic volley the ball over the bar. Vidic made up for that missed volley when he headed the ball into the back of the net from another Gibson corner.

The second half was slightly more lively, but not much. Wolves best chance to get something in the game fell to George Friend who blazed the ball over from 12-yards out.

60 minutes in and it looked like Sir Alex Ferguson brought off Vidic to protect him from getting injured. Darren Fletcher was brought on. The last thing we need is another defender getting injured again, we have just had Brown back and he is injured again.

Man United’s third goal came in the 66th minute thanks to some great play by Berbatov. He was passed the ball down the right side of the penalty area, he then flicked the ball over his head and into Valencia’s direction. Valencia only had to smash the ball past Hahnemann.

With 20 minutes to go Danny Welbeck was brought on for Obertan. Michael Owen replaced Rooney with 15 minutes left on the clock. Welbeck, Gibson and Evra all had shots at goal before the fulltime whistle went, they were either saved by Hahnemann or blasted over.

The game finished 3-0 to Man United. It was a very tepid game, Man United had plenty of possession and there was only ever going to be one winner.

The stats showed that United had 61% of the possession. We also had 10 shots on target compared to Wolves one. United and Wolves both had three attempts off target. Finally, Man United had eight corners and Wolves had three.

Ryan Giggs: Sir Alex Ferguson Will Manage Man United For Five More Years

Man United midfielder Ryan Giggs has said that he believes Sir Alex Ferguson will continue to manager Man United for a further five years. Sir Alex is 67-years old and many believe that he could last as manager for a further one or two years.

BBC Sports Personality Of The Year

Giggs was asked by The Times who he thought would retire first, he said: "I think it will be me.

"The manager is as good as ever and will go on for a long time.

"I can still see him as manager of United in five years' time, easily, because as long as he is healthy he will have the desire to carry on.

"He has a great team around him, he has his passions away from the game and can get away with his horse racing. When he comes back to football he is refreshed, and I know he still has that desire."

Giggs went on to talk about his relationship with the gaffer, stating that he may have aged and mellowed a bit but he can still get the younger players to fear him.

"Our relationship has never been better. It has evolved.

"He speaks to me like a friend and asks for my advice, which gives me tremendous confidence.

"We still argue, which is normal, we are all winners.

"The younger players still fear him, but not like when I was their age. He has mellowed, he isn't near as frightening as 20 years ago."

Premier League Preview: Man United vs Wolves

DONCASTER V WOLVES

Tomorrow evening Man United take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford, in a bid to go level on points with Chelsea. Man United slipped up at home against Aston Villa on Saturday whilst Chelsea drew against Everton. Chelsea play Portsmouth at Stamford Bridge Wednesday night but we can draw level tomorrow.

Ryan Giggs, who has been crowned BBC Sport Personality Of The Year is likely to be rested after picking up a slight hamstring strain against Aston Villa. United are still without a right-back so Darren Fletcher is expected to start in that position.

Man United are still without Jonny Evans, Fabio da Silva, Rafael da Silva, Rio Ferdinand, Owen Hargreaves, Federico Macheda, Gary Neville, Edwin Van Der Sar and John O’Shea.

Wolves are definitely without Dave Edwards who could be out for 10 weeks after suffering a serious injury during their 1-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday. Wolves are also without Andy Keogh, Michael Kightly, Matt Murray and Ronald Zubar.

After loosing to Villa, Man United have to win. Everton took two points off Chelsea but I don’t think that Portsmouth will be doing the same thing. We also have Arsenal to worry about but I believe that they will slip away as the season progresses.

Man United have already played Wolves this season, the youngsters beat them in the Carling Cup.

Man United team from: Tomasz Kuszczak, Ben Foster, Darren Fletcher, Nemanja Vidic, Wes Brown, Ritchie De Laet, Patrice Evra, Ji-Sung Park, Luis Nani, Antonio Valencia, Gabriel Obertan, Anderson, Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes, Darron Gibson, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Danny Welbeck.

Predicted Man United starting XI- Foster, Fletcher, Vidic, Brown, Evra, Park, Anderson, Gibson, Valencia, Owen and Rooney.

Predicted scoreline- Man United 3-1 Wolves

Man United NOT For Sale

Reportedly outside Old Trafford last night was a sign saying that Man United are not for sale. The News of the World reported yesterday that six businessmen were preparing a 1 billion pound bid to buy Man United from the Glazers.

A spokesperson for the glazer family has said: “The club is not for sale. Simple as that.” They also reportedly said that the News of the World printed a similar story three years ago.

Many believed that a 1bn offer would force the Glazers to sell, it has also been revealed that the club has recently been valued at 1.5bn.

Lets just hope that Man United are able to carry on paying off the £700 million debt and still able to buy players.

Man United Takeover On The Horizon?

This morning it is being reported by the News of the World that a group of six businessmen from the Far East are ready to make a £1 billion bid to buy Man United from the Glazer family.

SPORTSTAETTE: Manchester, 24.04.02

The tabloid believe that two out of the six businessmen are already Man United fans and have already visited Old Trafford a few times in three months.

A financial 'source' in the Bangkok reportedly said: "All the finances are in place and they are ready to approach the Glazers.

"They have done their homework down to the minutest detail and realise the Glazers are under pressure to service their mounting debts.

"If ever there was a time for United to be vulnerable to a buyout, it is now."

Another 'source' apparently said: "Make no mistake, this could be the biggest football deal of all time.

"Roman Abramovich's investment in Chelsea will be nothing compared to this. If the Glazers are ready to sell, the money is absolutely on the table."

The group of businessmen are said to be willing to have only a piece of the cake if the Glazers are unwilling to give up control of Man United. If this is true and right now, there is no way of telling then this is massive news, especially if it means that Man United’s debt can be wiped out.

There would be one main thing that I would worry about. We have seen what has happened over at Anfield with the Americans, they fell out and there was turmoil at the club. With six businessmen with a lot of money, what would happen to Man United if they fell out?

On the other hand, these men could come in, wipe out quite a bit of debt and pump a lot of money into Man United that could be fantastic.
